CB install question

So I am trying to figure out the best way to connect my CB, I would love to direct connect it to the battery but I really don't want it to be able to be on if the ignition is on. I know I will forget to turn it off at the wrong moment

If I added an aux fuse box would I be able to set that fuse box to not have power if the ignition isn't on.... any ideas would be helpful.

I don't know much about CB's, but I'm sure you can tap in to any switched power source in the stock fuse box to power your radio. With a multimeter, you should be able to easily determine which ones have power when the ignition is on. From there you can wire in your own fused circuit. I have an old Uniden I picked up at a garage sale, and from reading on here, the most challenging part will be mounting and running the antenna wiring.

 

You can wire to a fuse that cuts off with the ignition. I have left mine on accidentally for 2 days before and never drained the battery at all. They dont draw much power unless you have a linear and are talking a bunch on it.

 

Just plug this into your fuse block behind the dash and will only come on with the key turned on

tied my cb into the mirror adjuster...12v source that turns on with the key

mirror adjuster isn't used that often and you don't need to run wires all over

 

Run it straight to the battery for best performance. Like already stated it draws very little power and won't drain your battery.

 

you get the least amount of noise through the radio by running your ground directly to the battery as well, no engine noise

 

Ive heard that if you connect it directly to battery you get engine noise... thanks for the heads up there

 

I had better luck going to the battery, was grounded to the body, but thats just my experience.

this is out of my 1st gen but you get the jist

 

Ran mine through a lit switch and direct to the battery. Put the switch right next to the cup holder by the shifter. If I accidentally leave it on, I see the light on the switch when I'm getting out. Gets full power, best ground, and gives me a quick way to turn it on without having to reach behind the center console and fumble around.

 

That's a great idea I may just need to steal it
