I'm running out of room in my small safe and need to store a couple more guns for a few months while I save up for a bigger safe.

That particular model is vinyl coated metal, I'd probably just bend up some brass rod and glue a cheapie rubber tip on it to make the same thing for cheaper. I'm curious if anyone has used something similar and might know of any drawbacks.

Well, I have a 3.0 cu ft safe and 7 handguns. It gets a bit cramped in there without even counting ammo, extra magazines, dehumidifier, etc. Obviously I should have amended my choice in safe before buying new guns, but safes are boring :D

My hope is they're as useful as advertised so that even when I do get a bigger safe I can still use them to clear up even more room.

My only concern would be that they bend over time. Just coat the metal with something. Plastiderp  would probably work too...

I wouldn't use anything that can rub off into the barrel (derp).
Seriously, why are you storing your ammo in the gun safe? Just get a locking cabinet if you're concerned about keeping it secure from kids.

I have one of those as well but it's just about full at this point. 7k of 9mm, 2k of .45, a crapload of .22 and all the cases, cleaning supplies, etc. I use the safe for my PD rounds, bulk goes in the locking cabinet.

Having some kind of coating rub off inside the barrel was my worry with the vinyl coated stuff I linked in the OP, which is why I thought about using brass rod.

    I'd be comfortable with brass.
It's not going to abrade the steel, but is hard enough to avoid excessive wear deposition.

Brass sounds good, but might bend easier (depending on how you built it obviously)
