Toyota is protecting themselves from all the lawsuits filed against them regarding "sudden acceleration" and things like that.
I don't here anyone complaining that Jets have a black box recording flight data. To me, it's the same thing. So what if I don't "own" the plane.
I don't have a problem with data recording . When it turns into secret GPS, and personal data farming, then I will protest. But I don't think it will go there. The market won't tolerate that.
When a soft code is stored on the OBD, thats data recording. been around for a long time.

    So crazy thread aside.

I have been thinking of a dash cam.

The GoPro has been working good for you? So its basically a camcorder right? The picture comes out all good through the windshield? Some of these dash cams are looking real cheap. Is the GoPro a solid unit?

It's moderately large and ugly in a waterproof housing, and it works VERY well.

There's a motorcyclist that passes me every day that has two of them mounted to his helmet... one forward, one rear.

    Solid?

That's a Helluva lot of G's. I would have to say if it can take that there is just about nothing I could do with my truck that it couldn't take. Plus it could be used for more than just a dash cam.

That's why I linked that video instead of the weather balloon video that we've all seen on the Chase commercial (plus the thing was in an insulated container so the only impressive thing about that video was the flight and recovery success.)

I don't think this is to far off? See..... its my way of being the man. If I get a dash cam I can get on the inside. I can start reporting on people that I record. I might get vid of someone sparking a jay or some dude getting road head by NOT HIS WIFE?

... ^^^ ... Yes, it's a dash cam that picks up almost everything and it a great little camera. I was surprised with picture quality and how tough it is.

I will take some pics and post them later. Have the H2 mounted on a sand bag GPS mount with NO suction cup, but with a "adhesive flat slide on clip". Suction cup mount on sand bag GPS mount on dash is too top heavy.

Drilled a hole in the side of the waterproof case for a USB cord to dash outlet (did not want to use clear skeleton case) and it works perfectly. It even runs for about 2 hours with ignition off and catches almost everything.

I love this thing ... just need to slow down the speed on recording ... it looks like I am doing 50 MPH or 60 MPH on playback, when I am really only doing 35 MPH.

PS ... It gets a little warm after an about and hour, but is still doing OK. Small clear plastic tube from A/C outlet cools it very well though.

OP do you use facebook? If you do you give up more info freely then any one will ever gather from any thing else government or other wise. No one but no one other then Toyota corporate can read the info (or any other manufacture they all have a flight recorder) there is no voice recording they do not give up info with out a court order and it's a DOT thing to gather crash info nothing more. You can not buy a car/truck with out one any where built by any one it's not a government plot.
