Headed back for more Taco

Updated: I bought a 2012

After 3 Tacos (97, 00, 03 models) and 3 Ram diesels I'm ready to head back to Toyota.

Its taken me quite awile to warm up to the looks of the new Tacoma's - frankly for the longest I've thought them just plain ugly compared to the first gens, but I'm seeing their virtues overall - more power, roomier, still decent mileage for a truck, etc..

I drive 30000 miles a year for work, so fuel, oil changes, overall reliablity and the rest really play a big roll for me.

So, those of you who have had both Taco generations, do you like the new one compared to the old?

Should I buy a certified 2007 with 47K on it for $22k or grab a new 2011 for whatever deal I can make? ($30+ I assume)

How is the build quality turning out to be over the past several years - same or faultering?

 

Welcome to the Forum. I have ridden in numerous 1 gens and I own a second gen. To be honest it is really hard for me to say which on I like better. I like both for different reasons which are specific to each model. You should get into a second gen a drive it for a while.

For the most part 30,000 miles in one year is going to be much more comfortable in a second gen 05+.

 

I would think if you can get a new 11 (do I once, do it right) supercharged TRD you would be extremely happy.

 

Try for a 2010 leftover... pending on what aptions you want.. you could prob end up with a leftover TRD for noting more than 26-27K??? Kinda wish i went this route when i purchased my '10 last february

 

I had a 01 and it was ok .. My 2011 I say is beter then the 1st gen

 

I just did that exact same thing. Traded my 2010 Ram 2500 with CTD in for another Tacoma. Last Tacoma was 2007 access cab, now driving 2011 Tacoma V6 4WD. Not missing the Ram 2500 though a great truck.

This time I chose the non TRD Tacoma with only a SR5 package and may add a few suspension options.

Supercharged? My 03 had a TRD blower... faster than a hemi ram, but it was noisy as hell.
Was sorta fun to mess with the ricer cars though.

Where can I find out more about this supercharger? Is it a $3500 dealer installed option like it was in the first gen? If so.. I pass, cool but not worth the $.

 

Checked into the 2010 leftovers...
2.9% is available on the 2011's and all Certified Used, but there's nothing on the 2010's.
Last years could end up costing as much or more overall due to a higher intrest rate.

 

Well, it took more than a year, but I finally bought a new Tacoma

I've got about 1000 miles on it now and like it fine.
Its ride is pretty good really, and with the auto trans its a much easier day at "the office".
I wish it would hold overdrive a bit tighter.. too much shifting in/out of OD.
It could use more power in general. I checked out the Frontier too, so... yea, Toyota has some catching up to do in the engine department.
The interior and overall features (and resale) sold me on the new Taco, plus the one I found was actually available, not much out there for Frontiers.

Anyway... I need a few accessories.
Good rubber floor mats - Toyota options??

Recommendations?
Programmers to pep this thing up a little?
Any shortcuts to better performance

And I'm lucky to get 15mpg so far, whats the deal with that??

 

Air up those tires to 35psi and your mpg will be a little less with the longer wheelbase model than short.
