Not a skid plate.

My 2012 DCLB TRD Sport 4x4 has a pan under the front section of the engine. I'm pretty sure this is not an actual skid plate but want to make sure. I would like to put in a true skid for the front and maybe the transfer case. Not so much for actual offloading, but I'm often on rough unpaved construction sites with lots of debris around. A little extra protection would be nice. So what is the pan under my Taco's engine and is the factory front skid any good? Is there a factory x-fer case plate.

mmmm, kinda not really, most of the off-road guys ditch the stock ones and hang after-market ones.

 

The sport has a weak half plate. Get on the relentless skid buy.

I got my All Pro that I'm plenty happy with but group buys are group buys. Gotta scoop that shit when you can.

Me and JLee were laughing at how wussy my stock 07 skid is.....maybe at some point he'll get around to making 1/4 in skids

 

50 is filled yes, but he is taking group buy prices for two more days at a two month wait.

 

The stock tinfoil is fine if all you're worried about is debris being thrown up.

If you're actually going to drag your truck over rocks, you'll need real skids.

FWIW, I've beaten my 3/16 IFS skid pretty damn hard. I've caved it in a few times but I just take it off and pound it back with a sledge. I think it's enough for what I do, which is occasionally pretty big rocks. If you're thrashing your truck every weekend 1/4 is better and you won't deform it IMO. It's also really damn heavy and I'd still rather have 3/16. At some point I'm going to take it off and weld some angle iron in strategic places to brace it and it'll be a lot lighter than 1/4 but still almost as strong.

You can get the IFS skid in 3/16 or 1/4" steel with our without an R.



His mid and t-case skid on my truck, I fabbed my own IFS skid a while back so I'm not running his IFS skid.

 

This is his IFS skid and this is how far it covers in the rear w/o mid skid or t-case skid.
