Rear tube bumper and hitch receiver help

So I've decided I want to make a prerunner style-ish bumper for the rear of my taco to match the front. The only problem I'm having is being able to keep my tow hitch and incorporate it into the bumper without it being too low. I need to keep it because I tow a trailer with two wave runners during the summer for river trips.

I was thinking something like demellos rear bumper like this.



Let me know what you guys suggest or think.

 

If you are gonna DIY i would suggest that you start with 4x innovations bumper mounting brackets (56.00 dollars iirc). They are cut from 1/2 in plate and would give you a good base to design and build your own bumper. You would be able to use your existing hitch and build around it. I was gonna go with them but shipping was way too much for me!

 

I don't need to buy them, I have access to a water jet and I can just get the dimensions and cut myself more than i need in case something goes wrong.

 

heres how I did my hitch. Just put it behind the license plate with a flip down plate holder.

 

what size tubing did you use?

 

1.5 x 2 on the top main tube and 1 x 2 on most the rest. also alittle 1.5 square in there.

When I built my bumper, I just unbolted the hitch and flipped it over and put the bolts back in.

Shrockworks makes this one and it's not quite pre-runner but it's tight, compact, and different.

 

No pics, sorry. But it is as easy as it sounds. Just unbolt the three bolts per side and flip it to where the hitch is at the top and the bolts will line back up.

 

hmm, we must have a very different hitch set-up, b/c I just took a hard look at mine and there just isn't nearly enough clearance to allow it to be flipped...

back to the drawing board...

Can you post a picture of the way yours is set up?

 

I think my old hitch was a hidden hitch and there was no way to flip it.

 

Mine looks just like the hidden hitch, so I guess I'm beat.
