yeah the camera is nice, but i would be happier having no camera and no VSC. After i lifted the truck the VSC was nothing but problems and at times very dangerous. Even when i would turn it off it would still mess with my brakes going into corners.

    Something else... food for thought...

TRAC (2009+) is limited slip on the FRONT and BACK in 4WD-HI. You can also perform the 4-low trac mod and have it in low range, too.

The mechanical limited slip is on the rear diff. only, and when the clutches inside there wear out, big $$$ to rebuild a diff.

The TRAC system is refreshed every time you do a brake job, and the differential is not going to fail from its use.

Slowing down a spinning tire using clutches inside the diff. or brake pads is still SLOWING down the spin... The tire or dirt under it don't know how it is slowed. If a mechanical limited slip was better, you have to wonder why Toyota dumped it at the end of the 2008 model (after just 4 years of using it)?

The Toyota I know seems to put quality and performance ahead of cost...?

For the customer: Is not a brake job cheaper than rebuilding a differential?

I've had both mechanical and current auto LSD. Those who say mechanical is better don't know what they are talking about. There are lots of reasons why auto lsd is better but one of the main reasons is that in mechanical lsd both wheels have to be able to get traction or it won't work. This is not a problem with auto lsd. It's also a much smoother system. Doesn't have the jerking of mechanical lsd. I can't think of one situation where mechanical lsd would be better?

lol....what color is the sky in your world?

Quality ahead of cost..?....like spray painted dash plastics?

Yea....nothing like adding more and more electronics to a truck...cause that's such a great idea  I know when I'm in the middle of know wear I want to reply on 20 miles of wiring to get me home.

I have 80k on my mechanical LSD and not once has it jerked me. I can lay out 100 yard dual rear tire spins in the snow and it is smooth as a baby's ass.

I can think of many situations when mechanical LSD is better...but Ill just leave everyone with one reason I am for less idiot lights, idiot safety systems, and electronics in vehicles.

Thanks everyone, really great points here.

As much as I would like to think that the truck will get lifted and used-off road all the time it's likely that it will spend a lot of time on the road. Add in my wife driving sometimes and our little boy riding in the backseat all the time and the 2009 safety updates make it an easy choice.

Thanks again for the help, can't wait to make a real introduction..

I like the newer system with the TRAC. The Auto LSD works great when you need it to accelerate onto a busy highway in the rain, when my 07 would spin out.

Side Curtain Airbags were optional in 2005-2008 Double Cabs.

    My 2007 has them.

If you want a mechanical LSD rear end, look for a 2008 with Side Curtain Airbags. They are out there.
