After that, I sold the TJM so i ran bumperless for a little while.
I got the Lotus Development LCA mount skids

Sometime after that, I put on a Outdoor Logic front bumper and switched the rear LC coils out for some OME 861's

Did a little paint work and threw on some cheap worn to shit 35" Duratracs since my one of my 33's got sliced on a rock. Bought a Certifit sport hood which i still haven't had time to paint.

Shortly after, i was time to get some actual tires on there. Found an awesome deal for five 315/75/16 Toyo's with 80% tread on craigslist

At this point, i was incredibly overdue for some sliders so i had Rock Toy Industries help me build something kinda different

Started on the rear bumper build back in September.

Latch and locating bolt with adjustable tension. Jam nut to be added.

The incredibly overly complicated hinge. The heims make the pitch of the carrier adjustable. That was something i was fighting with on the 1st hinge i did. The pin on top locks the carrier in the open position.

UHMW poly ramp/rest thingy. AKA a body lift puck that i cut down.

Around Thanksgiving, i took advantage of the TRS Black Friday sale and picked up the Morimoto Mini D2S Retro kit.

Up to this point, i was still running the stock split 3 spoke wheels. The main drawback to them is that they are only 7 inches wide. Running 315(12.5 inch wide) tires on them isn't exact ideal so I've been looking around for something a little wider with less offset. Problem is i feel like most wheels that are out now are just way too flashy to me.

I've always liked the Volk TE37's but at $750/wheel, they are a little out of my price range.

    Enter the Konig Countersteer Offroad

These are basically a replica of the TE37's but $775/set, they are much more affordable! I called up Dustin at FN Wheels and got a set on the way.

I need to get some better pictures but here is a phone pic of them mounted.

I need to bust out the DSLR and get some better photos of it now

    Here the wheels be

Thanks again to Dustin and the guys at FN Wheels as they were awesome to work with!

At this point, i;m still running the stock 4.10 gears in my truck. combining that with the 35's isn't ideal but having the supercharger more than made up for the lack of gearing. Only realy problem i had was when i was wheeling it, it was hard on the truck and definitely a pain to work the clutch while getting over obstacles. It was doable but i was burning the clutch a lot.

So my options were to spend $2000 on regearing and rebuilding the diff and probably add lockers while they were apart, or i could do a dual case setup. Considering the gearing doesn't get you as low as dual cases, i decided to go with a Marlin Crawler TacoBox.

    2FC798E7-CD89-4A96-9872-F05C42032F15-834_faff4a671f82a7dae8c0c172cbd5e53d47e010e0.jpg

I'm not going to do a full writeup since Wyatt at Rock Solid Toys has a really good one that we followed. Here is the link to that writeup
Marlin Crawler "Taco Box" into 3.4L Tacoma - RockSolidToys Toyota Solid Axle Swap & 4X4 Forum Facebook

The TacoBox setup is pretty sweet since it is a fully built unit that is ready to install in your rig. Since you are sandwiching another transfer case in between the transmission and your stock case, the front driveshaft has to be lengthened and the rear driveshaft needs to be shortened. The length difference is just the total length of the TacoBox which is 8.5 inches.

Since this Lobster is my winter daily driver, i couldn't have it undriveable while the driveshafts were being modified. I bought a spare junkyard driveshaft and pulled my front driveshaft and brought them to Rocky Mountain Driveline to have them modify the lengths. While they were doing that, i had them rebuild the double carden joint on the rear shaft and make sure both shafts were properly balanced.

Once that was done, we were ready to roll(or crawl? :D)

    Going under the knife
    33E96A35-DCA3-4451-9A66-9D14A0E5CB40-144_83dcbb923dfad517d4ce310d178a3465071a7810.jpg

Stock case came out pretty easy.

I wonder which one is the new one?

Yes i probably should have taken the time to wash my stock case but i am a lazy man. Its just going to get dirty again

You need to remove the stock coupler on the input for the tcase that you see in the above picture. RST's writeup recommend welding a nut to it and threading a bolt in to pull the coupler off the input shaft.

My cell phone camera had a moment of stupidity

The seal adapter and new seal gets installed on the transmission output shaft by tapping it in with a rubber mallet.

We did a couple dry fits of everything and noticed that one of he machined hole needed to be drilled all the way through so the stock case would bolt to the crawl box. Rear plate comes off with 6 bolts and you finishing drilling out the machined hole.

I'm assuming that should have been done at Marlin when it was built but it really was quite easy to do so NBD.

The adapters have a lot of different clocking options. I chose to leave it stock since i won't gain any clearance until i make a new crossmember and skid plate

Both cases bolted up. There is still about 4 inches of room between the rear case and the rear crossmember.

Lets count the transfer cases in this picture. One. Two. Two! Two transfer cases!

    Ah ah ah ah!

Here are how the shifters come into the cab. This will be finished tomorrow. The rear stick will come up into one of the cupholders.

That pretty much covers the install. But no crawlbox install would be complete with out a video of the truck driving with no one behind the wheel right? :D

Just testing out the crawler. I used to have to slip the clutch and work the gas like a mofo to get up to the top. This time, i didn't touch the gas or the clutch.

    Elocker Swap

This is still ongoing but the hard part is finished(I hope!)

I've been wanting to put in a elocker pretty much since i bought the Rock Lobster. Recently, my rear diff started to make a horrible howling noise and the gears had way to much backlash. Also one of my wheel bearings had some play in it even though they have less then 30k on them :ybrick:

So i decided to not bother with fixing my current open diff or do the wheel bearing again and just swap the entire axle out for an elocked one. After searching for a little while, I bought a hub to hub elocker axle from a local guy parting a 96 after a wreck. This way i would not have to mess with cutting, drilling, and tapping to retro the elocker diff in to my housing. I had purchased a 4.30 front diff awhile back in anticipation of doing the elocker swap since most 4Runner elockers are the 4.30 ratio. However, the truck i pulled the axle from was a 96 V6 5spd and the gear ratio was 4.10 so i ended up not having to swap the front diff out! I confirmed that both the new and old axles were 4.10 by doing the spin test.

We ended up working out a deal where we would basically swap axles so he could use my axle and still move the truck around while he was parting it out.

I went and pulled the axle yesterday and did the swap at work. The elocker axle had a leaking axle seal so i replaced that and added some diff armor while it was out and easy to work on

Cleaning the oil out of the brakes. The shoes looked to be pretty new so i used 3 cans of brake clean on them and got them looking pretty good.

Next i need to build a control for the locker. I got the pigtails for the locker and the dash switch but no ECU. From what I've read, it should be pretty easy to make my own.

The Moab to do list is getting smaller!

Holy crap i haven't updated this in a while.

    Thanks man!

Its ok. Regearing is on the list but its manageable. Having the supercharger more than makes up for it and even without the SC, i think it wouldn't be too bad. Your truck is probably lighter than mine too so you should be fine. I would plan on a regear or SC though haha. Or both? :D
