What's this 4runner worth?

Ok guys, so my bro is looking into getting a Tundra and he has a 4runner and a Honda Civic as his DD and doesn't need three sitting in the yard so the Runner has to go. He doesn't think that if he trades it in he'll get anything for it. So he was thinking about selling it outright. It's a 1995 Limited 4runner 3.0 v6 4x4. Power windows, locks, sunroof, leather (the front seats need work though). Extras that I know of: Tinted windows, Leveling kit in the rear, Flowmaster 40 series. 180,xxx miles. Oil changed every 3-4 thousand miles.

So that's the specs. If I left anything out just ask. He was thinking he would only get $3000. I told him he was crazy that Toyota's resale value these days is unreal and that he could get more for it. It's in great condition and has been well maintained. So what do you guys think?

$3500 tops for it. No one really wants the 2nd gens because of the 3.0, so they don't sell for much unfortunately.

I figured that he could get a little more, but it being the 3.0 I see what you guys are saying.

Would it help it more if it had the newer 3.4?

If you need a station wagon or snow mobile you can't get much better at 4k. I wouldn't take any less if it runs good.

Around here they go for about $500-4K..depending on condition and whats included.

I've seen locked, lifted, and loaded go for $3750 before.

My buddy just sold his 91. 3.0, 5 speed, 4x4. 112k ORIGINAL MILES. New clutch, had some tires and wheels on it(nothing special). New manual hubs.

He got $2500..he was asking $3,000.

Thanks for all the input guys. Hopefully he'll have some luck with it.

Off subject question, he is looking at full size to pull his boat. He likes the Tundras and the Chevy's but is torn between both. Any input that would help him make his decision between the two?

If he is going to sell it outright, he will be best to list it as far away from true Toyota enthusiasts as possible. As everybody has said, people that know Toyota's will purposely stay away from the 3.0L, but if he can find somebody just looking for a good car to give to their kid for their first car, he should be able to get $4,000 for it.

My first car was a 1995 4Runner with 86,000mi on it and I drove that bitch into the ground, fixed it, and sold it for $4,200 with 190k on the clock. That was in early 2000 so I realize things are different, but they are still good cars.

Another thought for him, if he is looking at going used on the full-size, is to find a dealership that has a trade-in special going. A lot of Kia dealerships around here are giving $5,000 for any trade in any condition. If he can find something like that, that has a good selection of used full-size trucks, he would probably be in a good spot.

Hope that helps!

Fink

That's where he's at, he has the 4runner i've got a pickup my dad has a pickup and a Tacoma and my mom has a Camry. So he knows how reliable they are, and that's what makes him so unsure about which one. He knows the Chevy's ride really well and do decent on gas for a full size, and will pull his boat great. And the same with the Tundra, ok on gas and would pull really well if he gets the 5.7L. He's just confused.

Another price opinion

Ask what you want but I'd expect around $2500 for it. Spent the last couple weeks checking out mid 90's to 2004 4runners all with varying mileage/price/condition etc. People asking a huge variety of prices but none selling unless they were really good deals. Passed on many including 2000 with 142k for $4500, '98 with 165k for $3500, ended up with an '02 with 83k for $6250. Lots for sale, few selling, so if he wants to keep it for a while, sure ask $4,000 but don't be surprised if it takes lowering it to below $3,000 to sell it. Just my opinion and hopefully he can sell it for 4k! GLWS

It depends on where you are I still see them go for 5k in showroom condition in Denver on rare occasions hell they are all over Craigslist here with 250k and not running for 2k as long as its a manual the automatics sell for much less.
