VERY interesting snorkel
the 3.0 is pretty gutless, but the manual trans makes it tolerable. One thing to check is if the head gaskets have been done recently, but you mentioned a rebuilt engine. Other than being under powered and the HG's being notorious for blowing.. I love my 2nd gen. It is just my weekend beater/camp mobile...but I really do enjoy driving it to work occasionally.
If you plan on running a winch or an electric fan conversion, you should really look into upgrading the alternator. The 60amp alternator is pathetic
I will be doing the cs130 alternator swap soon. Nothing to brag about, but an extra 45amps for $25.. will do for now. I have a build thread in the "other" build sub forum.

have fun with it!

Thanks,
Nice FoRunna! I have an 89 pickup with 5:88 gears in it that are turning 33's. Im planning on putting new gears and lockers in it by spring. how do you like your 4:88's? Do you think I should go with 4:88"s or 5:88"s? Mostly bush use.

I have never seen 5.88's
Check the door sticker to see what gears this 4runner came with from the factory.
http://www.brian894x4.com/Gearratiosanddiffs.html

I still have my 4.56's.. on the hunt for a set of factory 4.88's to match my 33's.

*If* you plan on going 35's, you will want 5.29's but 4.88's "will do the job"
I can still do 75-80 on the freeway with my gears/tires if I want to.. just want the 488's to get it back to factory specs.

Thanks,
No plans on 35"s, but I'd like it to crawl. But still wanna be able to 4x4 without having to put it in 4 low every time. Got my gears and lockrite lockers from Rocky road outfitters. It was a long time ago, I always thought they were 5:88's I could be wrong
