I handed my 1998 4Runner down to my step son a couple years ago and he took it to walmart to have the oil changed a few weeks ago and somehow they managed to screw the engine up. Long story short, they totaled it and gave him $6300 for it. He came way out ahead because it was worth maybe $4500 on a good day with 240,000 miles. Well he found this one the other day. 2000 model sport with 160,000 miles, 4x4, and has a few mods. I think he did real good getting this one for $5000.

As far as what wally world did, broke the sending unit, oil drained out and they started it up and screwed the crank bearing. They sent it to the local Toyota dealer and they wanted $5500 for put a 160,000 mile used engine in it. Lucky for him, they decided to give him high NADA retail. I figured it would be a battle but after sending it to their insurance company and about 4 weeks of waiting, they sent a check and we signed the title over to them. Pure luck in my opinion.

I never take anything to wally world for oil change, tires, or whatever just for this very reason. He's 18, in college and is always looking for a deal, as most college kids do. I was impressed that they stepped up but they didn't have a choice because there was no question they were the ones that broke it. His engine had some miles on it but it didn't use or leak a drop of oil between changes. He's pretty stoked about the new one

We decided to paint the wheels black this weekend, turned out pretty good.

Thinking about getting a set of these wheels for my 2001 double cab Taco. Besides the FJ Cruiser TRD wheels, I always thought these were the best looking wheels for tacos and 4Runners. I'm going to buy a new set of 267/75/16's before the winter so I might try to find a set.

I think the only reason they did it is because they decided to make a repair that they were not qualified to do by changing the sending unit. Their insurance guy called me and said there was no way to prove that they are the ones that messed it up so I asked him if Walmart changed out sending units on a regular basis. He said I'm pretty sure we do so I picked up the phone and called 3 Walmarts in the area and asked if they would change out my oil sending unit, all 3 said we can't make those kind of repairs. Bam!!! no question at that point they had to pay up. I thought what they give him for the Runner was too much but I'm no value expert :D It all boils down to the runner was running great with no issues when it went to walmart for an oil change and came back with a bad crank bearing. I'm sure they didn't know the oil leaked out and they started it and that's what got the bearing. I told my son that should be a lesson not to take anything to walmart for something as important as an oil change. Since I changed my oil when I was his age, I showed him how to do it and now he'll be doing his own.

Walmart I quick to jump on settlement because people like to sue them. Like a lot. But looks like he came out ahead for sure and is a sweet looking runner :)

Washed and waxed everything today so we lined them up for a family photo. Oh, and I finally took those damn chrome step bars off. I think it looks a lot better.
