2014 4runner diesel

What is so interesting is that the 4runner still will not have a diesel and will still have an "ancient" 5 speed automatic.

I may lean towards the Diesel Grand cherokee but i am wondering, how come the 4unner wont have a diesel?

Because Toyota has not been prompted yet to put one in and this is a refresh not a redesign

Kind of beating a dead horse here, but I think it will happen, but it will take some time. We just have to be patient.

But diesels do get better mileage than gas though

Yeah, and cost a lot more to buy and maintain... Do the math and you aren't saving on fuel economy alone until you've already kept the thing for many years after it's paid off.

Good luck with the grand Cherokee, its $40,000+ iirc just to get into the diesel. The diesels will come, I wouldn't go jumping all over the place because some brand name X has it and brand name Y isn't scurrying to keep up.

Car ads/sales/HYPE are all about razzle dazzle and watching the customers come running in without researching their purchase. Don't feed it, wait a year.
The diesel liberty came n went in a year or 2, ask why, then ask will this Cherokee be different.

Save $4000 too, you'll need it to buy the diesel option..... they don't come at the same cost as a minor gas engine upgrade.

Buy 2 extra fuel filters. Where its cold, the diesels can gel and plug a fuel filter. You have to take extra steps the average consumer isn't willing to do, but it isnt that big of a deal. On some models all you have to do is remove a battery to access the filter, unscrew the filter , wipe up any drained fuel that sloshed, put on the new filter , PRIME the filter so you don't damage injectors, put the battery back in place. Unscheduled maintainence.

Be ready for a diesel fuel price spike, as more diesels enter the market, supplies aren't as reliable ... cost goes up.

I don't think the average car owner who hasn't had or dealt with a diesel is ready for one, the auto maker wont tell you of those details though, just the torque and fuel mpg.....razzle dazzle.

ps, yea, i'd like another diesel too, honestly.

But where its cold, can you just get a block heater so that the diesel will not gel? How easy will it be to oil change the 2014 grand cherokee diesel with the urea thing as well?

But, but, but... Since you want it so bad, go get yourself a Jeep instead of creating the 1400th diesel thread.

Fuel companies will 'cut' the diesel in the winter months so it doesn't gel up. Block heaters won't do anything about the fuel gelling up, separate issues. If you buy good fuel, you won't have any issues. Maintenance is still higher on a diesel though, you will have to replace the fuel filter every so often, but not because the fuel gelled unless you live in an extremely cold environment. Oil changes will the diesel will be fine, not sure what you're asking... Diesels have been around for years, it's not like they are a new engine.

there are variables like bio diesel, stabilizers, etc, block heaters wont heat the fuel rails/lines. Things get better over time... then yet again you go skiing one day and the filter is plugged yet again. most trucks at work plug once a winter or every other winter.

Why is everyone on here so obsessive about diesels? If Toyota doesn't make a HD diesel Tundra (like all other trucks), they sure as hell aren't gonna put a diesel in a mid-size SUV. These Jeep diesels aren't even out yet. The other car companies are at least gonna wait to see how they sell first..

Other car companies have already released small displacement diesels...

200 people on the web isn't enough to sell them. The point is accurate, if the number isn't.
Diesels in vehicles under 8600lb have more emission requirements compared to ones over 8600lb, the average buyers will not pay the premium price for a diesel, therefore up to about now, they just don't try to put them in pickups under 8600lb since the have a low sales history in the US.

on a diesel truck or suv, how often do you have to replace the fuel filter?

think mine was 10k or something... unless it plugged prematurely. Its been said that US diesel isn't as good as most of the rest of the world, not sure how true that is.

On my dad's diesel, that's about how frequently we replace his fuel filter. Usually between 10 and 15k miles unless we have a reason to do so earlier.
