Can someone tell me if a seal kit will fix a noisey power steering pump? Last night I flushed the fluid hoping that would help but no change. The pump doesn't leak and appears to work fine. No steering issues at all, just very noisey. I'm debating on taking it apart and doing a seal kit or should I just buy a rebuilt one for over $100.
    The 4runner is a 2.7 4cyl 5sp 4x4 with 130k miles.

    Thanks

    Tim

Wow, two weeks and not one thought? I guess I'll just discuss this with myself. So my research has lead me to believe that maybe the screen is clogged up and not allowing the proper fluid to flow through the pump. I've located a used psp and will probably pull the reservoir clean it the best I can and reinstall. If that doesn't change anything then I'll rebuild it and have a back up if something goes south. I'll report back with results for those who are having the same issue. Kinda hoping pulling the reservoir and cleaning will solve the problem.

Hey Tim, I'm having a noise coming from my PS pump as well...what was the result on the rebuild? Did it cure the noise? Did your kit include bearings? If so what brand and part number?

    Hey Randy,
I wish I could tell you about the pump rebuild but I never did it. The used pump I put on worked and has been working good so I never got around to rebuilding it. Sorry, curious how yours comes out tho. Good luck!

Well upon my poor original diagnosis...I found out the hard way last night it ended up being my alternator...although I think I need a new PS pump too as well as new idler pulleys and possibly soon a new water pump or fan clutch...it's a tiny bit wobbly. I have 247,000 miles so I'm due...lol. i have a few noises coming out from under the hood, but still mechanically sound! thank you for responding I have some work to do I guess

I know this thread took a turn from the original inquiry, but I am still interested in people's preference for either a new or remanufactured PS pump. Mine seized. I replaced it with a reman'ed pump from Endurance. I bought it from AutoZone. While it was listed as Endurance, the box said TrueGrade. I had never heard of either of these manufacturers.

The reman'ed pump I installed leaks at the seam where the two halves are joined on the underside of the pump. So, I now have to replace it again. I am trying to decide if it is better to go with a reman'ed pump or a new one that does not use OE core.
