Have you considered AAA?. I find AAA is very helpful and you never know when you will need it. I have had to use it 5 times in the last 2 years (I had a 1987 Colt Vista Wagon), but they also will open the car if you lock your keys in it.

Sorry for getting off topic. I got 2 keys, 2 remotes, and 1 valet with my 2010

test drove with key and fob. bought truck a few days later with just key. at first they said they misplaced the other set but that when they found it they'd give it to me.... 2 weeks later never found set. tried to say oh well, basically...... huuuuuge headache to get them to get me another set.....pretty much had to threaten to burn down the dealership if they didn't give me a spare key and at least one fob (certified pre-owned from dealer). so i guess after all that - 2 keys, one fob...

speaking of this, is it possible that when dealers get ahold of used cars they take any extra keys/fobs, reprogram/ cut and resell them???? why is it that all these vehicles are getting sold without the keys they came with? anytime i've bought a used vehicle the previous owner supplied me with all extra keys........

The expense of AAA can be avoided by making it habit of never leaving your keys in the vehicle. If I leave my keys in the truck, either the door is open or the window is down. Otherwise I always take them with me when I leave the truck.

This habit was created with my last car because my DEI alarm system would automatically arm & lock the system within 30 seconds of the doors closing. Ask me how I know :D

If you train yourself to not leave your keys in the car (like the three pocket touch for wallet, phone, and keys) than yeah you wouldn't need AAA. But for anything else, AAA will bail you out. Other than locking after 30 seconds, did you like your alarm?

Haha I do the 3 pocket tap all the time :D. Cell in left front pocket, Wallet in right front pocket, keys clipped to my belt and in my right rear pocket.

Yeah, I liked it. Will I buy one again? Probably not for the taco. It was on my Honda accord which being a Honda, modified with suspension, wheels, turbo-kit, various "JDM" items, etc so I didn't want it stolen so I figured it was an added layer of security.

On the Positive side of the 30 second locking feature. I always knew my car was locked.

I quickly turned down the shock sensor on it though because having to disarm from it going off in parking decks and during thunderstorms was kinda annoying.

Just to follow up, the vehicle should have come with 2 keys/fobs and a valet key because it is certified. It is inspection point 117 in Canada if anyone ever reads this with the same issue. Not sure about U.S.

After much wrangling over the meaning of "all keys are present and function properly" the dealership is paying for the missing keys.

They tried to sell me the story that "all keys" refers to those that the previous owner provided. I told them that was b.s. because that interpretation implies that certified cars don't come with any keys whenever a lease comes back without any. That seemed to stump them, lol.

    cheers.

Sometimes they buy them from auction and there are no keys. The cars are sold as-is at the auction. My buddy is a dealer. He bought a BMW M3 from auction one time that "had no keys" and after wrangling it off the transfer truck. The steering wheel was slightly turned and was locked. We had to use my truck with a tow strap to yank it sideways...roll it down the ramp a little, yank it sideways again, roll it a little bit more...you get the picture.

Needless to say after we finally got the car off the truck and were searching through it to see what was in it, we found a key under the driver's seat. :(:D

How do you identify the "valet key"? Mine came with 2 keys that are all metal and one that has the black plastic on the end. The plastic one broke so I just use the metal ones now.

I was given 1 key..... then I looked in the glove box with the manual and found the 2nd! ( of course, this is after I already made 2 spares)

Did they hand you the valet key, or is it located in the glove box or something? I did not get one with my 2012.
