Black grille guard with mounted kc road lights, 31x9.5x15 AT on stock rims. My future mod list: new white front bumper, Fat Bobs 2.75 spacer lift with rear AAL, american racing Flat Black Rims, 32x11.5x15 BFG A/T, satoshi grille with road lights mounted behind it, 8000k HID for all lights, 1'' Body Lift, new window tint, blacked out headlights and taillights, custom hood scoop, weather tech floor liners, LED dash cluster replacement, Front bilstein shocks, 40 series flowmaster, paint all my badges black.
im running 31x10.5 and my first gear is super high even coming off of a dead stop and 5th is pretty much just for cruising on flat highway. As soon as i find a set of 3.73's or 4.10's it will for sure be worth the money to have it riding smooth again.

I agree with the above. I run 31x10.5x15 tires with stock gears as well. I've got some 4.10's, just haven't gotten them in yet.

Thanks fellas. No significant problem with running stock gears with 31" for a while?

its just kind of annoying with 1st and 5th gear. But its tolerable.

hahaha no link, bought them on here about a year ago. Just haven't gotten them installed yet. Try calling east coast gear supply. They might have a r&p set around from a regear. Just make sure you tell them it's for the 8.4" and not the elocker.

You can also watch the classifieds on another truck site. :anonymous:

I thought all tacoma's came with stock 4.10 gears.or is it just certain models.

In the 2nd gens the 4wd and prerunners with 4 cyl engines come with 4.10 gears. The v6 4wd and prerunners come with 3.73. The Xrunners have 3.15 I think. And the 5 lug trucks have 3.31 for manual tranny and 3.58 for the auto.

When looking to re-gear is this what I'm searching for?

    T100/ TACOMA/ 8.4 4.10 GEARS - USED OE
Good used T100, tacoma Non elocker, 8.4 ring and pinion 4.10 ratio. Used OE

I plan to run 245/75R16 on my 5 lug would this be good enough to use? Also, is this the only component that I would need to re-gear or do I need additional parts? Sorry for the thread jack.

swap it in and go! if you have auto, recommend 4.30s with 31s.

I have 235/75/R15s with stock gears (3.58s with a 5-speed). It is a little slower but I can still chirp the tires so I'm happy.

Anyone know what the biggest tire size you can run with the stock gears and not notice a considerable difference?

The 2nd gen tacomas use what is referred to as the 8.4" differential. 4.10's are stock in the 2nd gen 4 cylinder 4wd and prerunner trucks. Check out the stock tire size for those trucks, it's 245/75/16. So by regearing to 4.10 you'll have the same ratio as a stock 4 cyl 4wd or prerunner. If you want to overgear then 4.56 is the most readily available ring and pinion ratio. It's up to you. If you want to run 33" tires then you might want to consider 4.56 gears. It's all depends on what you want to do with your truck.

I don't know too much about what ratios are used in the 1st gens.

Thanks! I'll probably stick with the 30" tires, so I guess I will be using the 4.10 on my 5lug. So now I know that before I upgrade my tires I should already have the 4.10 ready to be installed once I go larger with my rims and tires. Thanks for the great info! From other post I've read from you I can tell you really know your stuff! Are you a mechanic? Thanks again

Thanks for the complement. I'm not a pro mechanic, I've just had the same questions as you and I like to work on my truck.

What exactly is a 8.4" and a elocker and what are the differences?
