What about the bell tech shocks or lowering springs for the front? I'm not crazy about the bj flip

downey mid travel 2wd set up

I had a fabtech spindle on my taco with the downey mid travel kit. It worked fine for medium duty off roading. I definitely pushed it to its limits and never broke anything (pure luck), my buddy that i bought the tacoma off of broke several lower ball joints with the fagtech spindle, but he had the ball joints mounted on the wrong side of the spindle.

I'm also running a fagtech lift spingle on my 91 yota prerunner with total chaos ball joint kit and fOA coilovers and i've broken 3 steering knuckle studs. I ended up drilling through the entire spindle and putting a bolt all the way through the spindle in lieu of the bolt threading into it. MUCH stronger set up and haven't had an issue yet with a decent amount of jumping and high speed dirt use. Still all around a shitty spindle to offroad with as it mounts the uca too high and puts too much leverage on the uca pivot point. If you gusset the spindle, and gusset/weld the steering knuckle to spindle and drill through it for the knuckle bolts it'll hold up fine.

does anyone go mudding or off-roading with there 5 lug 2 wheelers.

the reason I ask, everyone keeps laughing at me when I say I'm going mudding and they find out the taco is only 2 wheel drive. This is my first truck and I fell in love with it immediately ( I had actually bought a ford ranger 1st and absolutely hated the truck so about 2 weeks later i traded it for the '09 taco and instantly fell in love with this truck). before this I had no intentions of going off-road, it never entered my mind, but after buying this truck it's all I want to do.(the bug bit me and I mean big time).

I put on GY duratrac 235/75/15's and away I went. I found out what the LSD and TRAC were for, which come stock on the '09's and up which I am so thankful for (I had no idea what LSD was before, other than some illegal substance that could make you retarted). The first mud hole I saw I drove right into it and immediately got stuck, sunk right in and just spun so I hit the TRAC button and she pulled her self right out no problems at all ( she still spun quite a bit and I had to rock her back and forth a few times before she gave way, mud flying everywhere but that's the whole fun of mudding isn't it)? I am so glad Toyota put in the limited slip differential or else the truck would be useless in mud (in my "truck virgin" opinion anyway).

well that's my story! I would love to hear any other 2 wheeling experiences you may have had and would like to share. Sometimes I do feel like an idiot going 4 wheeling with a 2 wheel drive truck but you know what, I can't afford another truck right now so the 2 will have to do!

I'M JUST GLAD IT'S A TACOMA.THANK GOD FOR TACOMA! [IMG]

And this one shows where the studs break at the steering knuckle on a pickup spindle

how you have to get home when a stud breaks...

Combine zip ties, duct tape and ratchet straps and you can save the world.
Or carry spare stock spindles if you run fabtech lifties and you actually use your truck. Something tells me few peeps in this thread do though.

yeah it looks pretty retarded doesn't it? only one bolt threads into spindle, other goes all the way through with a nut, AND its mounted on the wrong side of spindle. And he wonders why he broke so many bj's.
