Look into the D4D diesel swap. A lot of it is plug and play so.all of your guages work properly and since its a toyota engine, it wont be so different.

I actually drive a D-4D tacoma and not a single thing was plug-and-play. That's why we spent two years developing the kits. My D-4D Pre-runner gets 27-28 in the city and 32 on the highway.

what kits? come on man spill the beans.

ok after the weight suggestions I looked into the cummins 3.3L or the VW TDI. I know they make a TDI adapter for the 5spd but I heard they are developing one for the 6spd from the 3L. Would I be able to use that adapter for my T56?

I thought the D-4D was hard to find in the USA.

just read on his site the VW is a PITA and underpowered. I think they were talking about the 1.9l maybe the 2.0l would be better, but i would still rather use the cummins.

Bargain priced at $24k for a manual, $25k for an auto. I would love to see the breakdown of labor vs. parts for that swap though.

Price for the DIY kits is the $16,500 manual or $17,500 for auto. Includes plug n play harness and mounting system. We make about $10k on the installs. The rest is parts and/or shipping, customs duties, etc. etc. etc.

That's actually not bad for the DIY kit. Still too rich for my blood but if someone were serious about the diesel and had limited skills and/or time for the swap, that's a pretty viable option.

I seriously dont want to wear out my welcome over here so if anyone has any questions or would like to come by for a test drive, go to the website. We are on the waiting list to become vendors and thus far the mods have been very accommodating with us so I dont want to take advantage. We are filming a video for a 2008 prerunner D-4D so if there's something you would like to see, please feel free to provide input.

Go with a 4bt. You will actually be the first guy to install one after the hundreds who had the idea.

    I'm waiting

WHO THE FUCK HAS THAT KIND OF MONEY, if i had that kind of money i wouldnt be wasting it on making my tacoma fast. I would just go buy a fast fucking car!

Yeah it is tempting as they are very common and more powerful, but I've been scared into downgrading to the B3.3T if I go Cummins. The weight difference should help offset some of the power.

Most diesel options from the factory are like 10gs. so for a low production custom setup, its not that out there.

LOL really? They're not going diesel to be faster. And the price really isn't that out of line. Not saying its worthwhile but for someone who has the money and wants to do it the price doesn't seem toooo bad.

As far as "who has that kind of money" I guarantee you that there are trucks on here with well north of that money invested in them.

I agree there are trucks here that have dropped well over 30K but seriously 18k on ONE MODIFICATION! thats ridiculous. I could LT my truck and then buy an Almost brand new Yamaha R1 or i could but a 2001 Dodge ram 2500 Cummins diesel and have TWO SICK ASS trucks!

exactly I can do this and still be wayy less than a loaded up Raptor and get double the MPGs.

Yes a Ram is a full size pickup, do you know how much of a pain in the ass that is to drive around in the tri-state area? Find me a good midsized diesel truck?

You could go buy a Cummins but you'd still only have one sick ass truck

Otherwise, that's just opinion plus your net won't be the full $16k. You'll have your engine, transmission and wiring harnesses complete to resell so you'll make some of it back (not much but something). As far as the money thing goes, hey, smoke 'em if you got 'em.
