Stock 5 lug specifications

I don't own a tacoma. I'm in the process of swapping a 5 lug tacoma axle into my Jeep Wrangler. A late model second gen is the axle I'm looking for. I'm looking for all the info I can get on the axle stock. Most importantly what gear ratios were available stock. I'm looking for 3.73 to match my front axle. Any and all info is much appreciated. Thank you in advance.

 

5 lug tacomas don't come with 3.73 gearing, only V6 six lug trucks do. The 4 cyl 5 lug trucks come with 3.31 gearing for the manuals and 3.58 for the autos. The Xrunners come with 3.15. The six lug 4 cylinders come with 4.10.

You could regear a 5 lug axle by replacing the third member with one from a V6 six lug. BTW 5 lug axle housings are SUA vs the six lugs are SOA. Another option would be to get a 6 lug axle and swap the shafts out with ones from a 5 lug.

What years come with them? My statement was referring to 2nd gens, so I should have probably clarified that.

I was thinking about doing a third member from ecgs with 4.88's and a grizzly locker. Trying to keep my build cost efficient though for now, until I can regear my front Dana axle.
Can you actually swap the shafts from a 5 to a 6 lug like that? Are they the same spline count and correct diameter? That'd make it a little easier finding an axle assembly to put in. Are the tubes the same length?

 

I believe that you can. I swapped a 4.10 third that was built for a Sequoia into my 5 lug. I bought it from a guy who was going to put it into his 6 lug tacoma. Based on this I believe that the spline count on the axles is the same. I do not know if they are the same length but I would think so.

FYI, the elocker axles and diffs are different than the 8.4" T100/Tacoma axles and diffs ie. you can't swap gears or thirds between them.

 

Thanks for the info. Now the elocker third member would probably have the same splines count as say the 8.4? This would be good news.

 

I dont think so, but who knows. I know you cannot swap a third between the 8 and 8.4
