Bigger 15" tires on base 2004 tacoma.

I have a 2.4 - 4cyl xcab tacoma 2wd. On my stock rims which are 15x6 and now have 205s on them, I would like to go bigger without doing any lifts. I don't want to kill engine performance, now I get 27-30mpg but want bigger tires and would like to go 225 or at least 215. I'm pretty sure the 215 will work but I can't find a Wrangler in anything smaller than 225 around here in W..KY. and I'm wanting a more agressive tread without going mudders. Help please.

The short answer is you can't get a bigger tire with more aggressive tread and keep the same mileage. It will drop, the question is how much? Maybe 2mpg? You can use the same rims for 225, but I do not know if the tires will rub.

27-30 mpg wow, I have an 04 regular cab 2wd and the absolute best I have seen was 25 mpg. As far as the tire size you asked, I run 225/70/15 on the stock rims with no tire rub, but as mentioned above, I lost about 2 mpg. I am actually considering going bigger next time around.

I've seen 235/75/15 on a stock 1st gen 5 lug. Not sure if they rubbed or not, I'm assuming they did. I had the same size on mine for about a week before I was lifted but I have different wheels as well to stick them out farther. The 225s will probably work

I put 235-70-15s on the stock wheels and have not experienced any rubbing. I did lose 1-2 mpg which was worth it considering how much better the Taco does now in a strong crosswind at speed. Much, much better control.

Been running 235/75/15 Wranglers on stock rims at stock height for two years now. No rubbing, but I'm mindful of the speed bumps. Lost 1-2 mpg, but between the tires and a set of kyb gas-a-justs it drives like a whole new truck and I'm not looking back.
