It's stupid not to have them, especially with nations like Iran, who may be on the verge of creating them. As long as nukes exist, it's best to have them and have lots of them. Mutually assured destruction was the strategy that got us through the cold war. Without them, the Russians and eastern block countries could have easily bowled over Europe as their armor and armies out-numbered us significantly (about 10 Russian tanks for every American tank).

Look at communist China. They've boasted they could raise an army of over 200 million soldiers. Without a deterance, they could also roll right over us.

You want a large nuclear deterance (if we go down, you're coming with us). You also never promise to not initiate a first-strike. That doubt in their minds has to remain to keep them in check.

Would China build a bridge to the US? Why does China need to be our enemy? Haven't seen China involved in a war in.. I can't even recall one. WWII maybe. I'm not saying that the US should get rid of nukes while others have them but that everyone should get rid of them. Iran doesn't even come into the picture. They are never going to get a nuke.. The idea that we should have them and everyone should have them and lots of them is stupid and short sighted.

The Chinese got involved in Korea and Vietnam. There's also that whole Tiananmen Square incident where peaceful demonstrators were attacked by Chinese troops. No one said, everyone should have them. In my opinion, the idea that everyone is going to give up their nukes, hug and play nice when we all "agree" to get rid of nukes is naive. There will always be rogue nations that will do what it takes to get ahead. There's also no way to verify that a nation has totally disarmed itself of nukes.

Wouldnt an EMP only affect the vehicles that are running at the time? Just curious.

The basic premise of shielded enclosures and screened environments is to create “Faraday Cages” at each separate subsystem with filters applied at all point of entry (POE) for cable runs between enclosed regions. Lookup Faraday Cage. Also watch The Universe Magnetic Storm.

One second after was a great book. It makes you aware of the danger.

Way too many computers and tech on our trucks to consider it a viable option post EMP. Scrape up some $ and buy a pre 80’s truck if you’re that concerned about it.
