Can offset effect rubbing?

I'm currently running Eagle 50s 17x8 with 20mm offset 5.19bs with 285/70/17s and I'm not getting any rubbing what so ever... Although, with the 2005 tacoma I sold it had 17x9 0 offset and it rubbed a little. Kind of curious if the 2012s changed the wheel well space for more clearance. Anyways... I'm looking to buy the KMC XD775 Rockstars that are 17x9 with a -12 offset. I plan on transferring the tires to the new wheels but I'm curious if I will encounter rubbing issues with the new offset.

The reason why I'm changing the set up is to get wheels that stick out a bit more than the ones I'm running.

Biggest issue - in relation to suspension - is if offset does cause rubbing, then I'll chop the cab mount.

 

To answer your question - yes. But there are a lot more factors to contribute to rubbing.

lol... A little embarrassing, but in my defense I have new wheels and tires that arrive this wednesday that will fit much better. I've only ran this setup for 67 miles exactly and it's staying in the garage until the other wheels arrive. Although, no rubbing or indications of wear from the UCAs.

that is too close for comfort for me. your new wheels will provide you better clearance on the uca, but you will most likely have to do a little wheel liner cutting. if you wheel any, you should consider doing the cab mount chop mod.

 

less backspacing will help you clear the UCA but may cause rubbing on cab mounts etc. 4.5" backspacing is generally best for these trucks - not too little, not too much.

 

I do wheel but Ive decide to keep it close to stock with advise from KPT and his build. 18x9 265/65/18 with 0 offset. Bilsteins set to 1.75. And yes they do come in 17s since...always I think? Check out the XD website
