Your gonna have to trim with 285's so the other sizes would actually fit better.

Yea understand the trimming I was only curious if the width of the rim would be to wide for 275's or 265's. I dont want the rim sticking out farther than the tire at all.

All the tire data I've read says LT265s and LT275s fit on a rim with a max width of 8.5. Will they fit a 9" rim?

Many 265s are approved for 9" wide wheels but some are not. You can check on the tire manufacturers website.

I have 17x9 XDs and run 265-70-17 toyo open country a/ts. Got 43000 miles on them so far. No problems and they fit the rims perfect.

i know this is an old thread but i have been trying to research the same answer for a while and hope this helps anyone in the same position.....

i just had BFG All terrains 265 70 17's put on a method standard 17 by 9.... i like the way it looks as far as the distance it sits out from the wheel wells.... but the tire does not have enough of a sidewall so if i hit the curb its goin to damage the rims instead of hitting the sidewall of the tire. im switching them out for 17 by 8.5's, which is the suggested size anyway. i got those rims because i was going to go with 285 70 17's but chickened out at the last second because i didnt want to have to deal with trimming.
