So for the last year i have been using canine advantix. Well last month a week after applying the formula to my dog. I found 7 ticks all inflated and none killed by the repellent as they are supposed to be. Scince 2 were possibly lyme carrying deer ticks i brought him to the vet for a test. Yup he has lyme and needed antibiotics. Switched to frontline over the past month i have found 4 ticks all of which were bloated and not killed...
I live in a place saturated with ticks and its hard to go outside and not find one. However i still want a product that will kill them when they latch onto my dog, because vet bills suck.

Anyone who can recomend a product that works?

I have had the best luck with K9 Advantix 2.

When you give your dog a bath, wash him with a Flea/Tick shampoo.

I also spray my dog with a few shots of Repel® Plant-Based Lemon Eucalyptus Insect Repellent when we go for a hike, or if he is going to be out running around the woods.

I do get my GF to give him a flea bath once every 2-3 months its a pain because he has so much fur. The insect repellent is a great idea definatly going to try that when i take him to the beach/hiking.

I had similar issues with my dog. I kept him up to date with all the latest chemicals etc. Nothing seemed to work very well when the ticks were thick.

We ended up shaving him down occasionally and very reluctantly, being careful not to cut into the undercoat.
This way we could at least attempt to keep him tick free. His coat was very similar to your dogs, see my profile picture.

I had heard the K9 Advantix was supposed to be better than Frontline. I use Frontline because the Advantix is not good for cats (not that they spend much time together anyways).

For the yard, I used Specracide (sp?) and it's supposed to kill ticks, grubs, ants, etc. It won't help you on hikes but it'll make sure your yard doesn't have them anyways.

I like the idea of the bug repellent!

We use frontline on Nitro, our boxer, and have had 2 or 3 ticks on him all season. It is probably more effective with him cause he has short hair.

Without a doubt - you want vectra 3D
It's the best on the market and laughs at the other brands on the market. Trust me, I live in Dutchess county, NY- one if the more endemic areas with tick borne diseases. Make sure when you apply you are getting it up the spine and one the skin the best you can.... Crucial for absorption.
Make sure you are checking yourself for Ticks as well. Behind your knees, and all the hard to see spots they like to hide.

I have been battling chronic Lyme and a co infection of Babesia now since last march. It's been a long hard road, so watch yourself. Good luck!

Chickens . . . seriously. We had ticks pretty bad around here, dogs had them even with Frontline treatments. Got 5 egg hens 2 years ago, free range them, havent had any problems since. They are OCD when it comes to eating bugs.
