I also like not having to shift, I have to drive a manual bobtail at work. Talking about skills, what about those in the UK? Having to shift with the left hand. That would take me a lot of practice.

Go to Fuelly on the internet, sign-up, bottom right is an area that lets you "share." Basically it gives to the URL for your Fuelly account, past that in your signature block and voilá!

Possibly. Those concerned about scaring the fish away will certainly drive slower while crossing a river or stream. The truck's bed is a pretty decent fishing platform, though some prefer to just fish out of the side windows - stereo, nice seating, plenty of pockets for bait & tackle, lots of drink holders (for the most important fishing staples), and so on. :D

I'm too lazy to shift... and with my wife destroying clutches at an alarming rate, its easy to justify an auto....

Auto. My last standard shift was 35 years ago and I've never looked back.

Yeah, not sure where she's coming from there...I've owned several manual transmission vehicles with CC. Using CC may take a little more "planning" (is that the word I'm looking for?) when driving a manual vs. an automatic, but otherwise it works just the same.

Almost every car I've seen comes with standard with a manual or optional automatic. Not the other way around. Excluding minivans, SUV's, and crossovers, of course.

The auto is great. And it's got the 4-3-2-L choices. V6 it's a great choice.

In my short post above, I didn't really answer the question about how good is the Tacoma Auto. Based on my ownership of a Tacoma of all of 50 days, now, but comparing it to other trucks I've owned over the years with autos, the Tacoma auto is very very good.

Add to that pretty much all family sedans and luxury vehicles. Honestly, very few vehicles sold in the US today come with manual transitions standard...heck, you're lucky if it's even an option.

Pretty much, if you want a standard transmission, you're limited to sports cars, economy and compact cars, and light to mid-sized trucks.

Depends on where you look. The only large-scale company that still offers a fairly decent line of manual transmissions is the one that made some of the best in recent years - good ol' Soichiro's legacy. It's still available on about half their lineup. The accord has a 5 spd manual standard for the 4 cylinder and a 6 speed for the v6 coupe; the civic a 5 speed on the r18 engine and a six speed on the k24 (i wouldn't put that car's new engine into a sports car category), and the fit/cr-z still offer a stick as standard equipment (compact cars).

They can get away with it because a Honda stick takes as little effort to drive as a Honda auto ;)

That said, guess what Honda put their new fuel efficient HF civic trim on top of - the 5 spd auto. It truly is a dying breed.

Unfortunately in comparison driving a Toyota stick with finesse seems to require about three years in calculus. I'm not surprised they're disappearing from their showroom floors - they take a perfectly smooth and refined driving machine and give it the driving feel of a Willys Jeep.

As someone who has owned both Toyota and Honda manual transmission vehicles, I disagree. My Toyota manuals drive just as smoothly. The 2012 Tacoma TRD with sportshifter is VERY smooth a great driving experience.

Of course, I may be biased...I learned to drive with a Toyota manual transmission vehicle, and have owned several since (but have also owned a Civic manual)...so maybe I just don't know any better(?)...
