So, in your opinion, is there an appreciable (if any) difference in normal driving ride quality between a top of coil spacer and the 5100's?

If one chooses a spacer, is there a better shock option (or is there another option at all)?

If your gonna spend the money you might as well do it right IMHO..... the problem with the spacer is it causes the shock to bottom out before it hits the bump stops and makes for a much stiffer ride......

The 5100's on the other hand have a much better ride and do NOT bottom out before the bump stops...

I've read this is the issue with the spacer on TOP of the coil spring, but I believe (and I could be mistaken) that the preload (in-spring) type spacer effectively lifts the same way that the 5100 does.

Mechanically, the preload spacer and the 5100 would have the same travel, no?

Do you have a link to the type of space you are talking about?

Ok if im not mistaken all spacer like that are bad because of the aforementioned reason of the shock bottoming out first.... But if im wrong i'll admit to it lol

You still loose up travel (dont with 5100's) and "slight decrease in ride quality" vs no decrease in ride quality with the 5100's (if set at 0 and still not bad even if set @ 2.5)

But in the end it comes down to what you want its your truck and your money, buy what you think will be better for you...

The ToyTec spacer is the preload type.

As far as the shocks yes. As far as the springs, no. An old OME Nitrocharger and a preload spacer will feel very similar to a preloaded 5100. Preloaded factory coils are preloaded factory coils. Longer un preloaded coils will give a better ride. Valving with less damping gives a softer ride. You need more damping, stiffer springs, or more travel to gain performance. Performance vs ride comfort is a trade off.

I think the ride quality of 5100 at 2.5 sucks. Ymmv
