    Why not??

    Because the 1GR-FE engine is relatively high compression, it does run better with higher octane, so 91-93 octane is preferred but not necessary. 87 octane will run, but the computer will retard the timing so you will loose power. Run 91 octane, its worth the extra $0.20 IMO

    If you look at the "Recent Fuel-Ups" graph on my Fuelly link, on April 16th I filled up with 89 to start testing. I changed NOTHING about my driving habbits. You can see as the computer advanced the timing to adjust for the higher octane, my MPG steadily dropped. I felt no difference in power. I switched back to 87 on my last fill on June 19th.
