i wonder how these wheels would look powdercoated wtih the plasstic off, ive been debating taking mine off, also do you think it is the same size centercap as the trd sport 17's, if so, i could probably powdercoat the wheel and get the black fj trd centercap.

I probably going to do that soon, just have to figure out how to set my truck on blocks for a week without a ride.

    None yet; soon.
Count me with those who dislike the plastic chrome. If I spend a boat ton of money on a new Taco I wouldn't want cheap plastic chrome on my wheels.

Has anyone taken the plastic chrome-clad piece off? I'm contemplating putting these on my 4Runner but don't want the chrome look. Here's a picture of a 4Runner from the Dominican Republic -- the 18" wheels are factory down there. I copied this picture from Etremo04's post over at T4R.org.

I pulled a tire off and tried to figure out what is holding the covers on with no luck. My fear is epoxy since they seem to be on really solid. I left my truck in the sun to see if I could loosen the glue.....still solid. Whose gonna go for it and pull the covers off? I'm too scared i will damage em since I still might trade these things for something else.

I have a set of these taken off my TRD Sport DCLB truck from when I did the lift, wheels and tires. Currently 3" front, 1" rear with Pro Comp 7031's and Nitto Trail Grapplers, 265/70 R17
Out of curiosity mostly, I stood a stock wheel/tire next to the Nitto on the truck and it's identical in size. It got me thinking of mounting different rubber on the factory, chrome clad 18'' wheel and having a back-up set to run at times.

My question would be if anyone knows or could recommend a decent tire and size to run on this wheel?

Nothing with "Dodge" on it is the top of the line. I would rather push a Toyota than drive a Dodge, Ford or a Chevy ...

The wheels are the reason I bought this truck. And I must say these wheels look nothing like a Ford F150 wheel imo.

    nothing cool
when i asked the dealership about the Chrome Clad wheels on the new 2012 Tacomas their response was
    1. people aren't responsible to take care of chrome wheels (salt, sand roads in the winter, pitting and rust). I "kinda" agree for some people.

    2. If someone hits a curb and scratches the wheel really bad it's easier and cheaper to replace the Clad cover than to buy a whole new wheel.

I"m just the messenger ya'll, but that's what they told me.

Each of you is entitled to your own opinions, so I understand if you don’t like chrome-clad wheels but thought I would add a couple of facts to the mix.

Although it is easy to describe them as wheel covers, they are not. Wheels covers are made in low cost countries from inexpensive plastic and can be easily removed. Chrome-clad wheels have an expensive engineered high-impact composite permanently bonded to the wheel to allow a high quality chrome finish to be applied. This is what makes them so hard to remove - I would recommend you sell/trade them instead of spending the time and effort to remove them. One other point - They are the same high quality chrome used in grilles with a full layer of copper, nickel and chrome (Cu-Ni-Cr). There is no such thing as plastic chrome although there are some companies that make chrome thinner than others (ie offshore).

seriously? here is the question... are they cheaper compared to being a solid wheel. the answer is yes. they are cheaper, i will call the covers and you can call them " high quality chrome" whatever hahaha
