ok so my 08 AC 4x4 base 4.0 6-gear appears to have a factory tow package. toyota receiver. looks as though the p/o switched the 7 pin for the old 6 round pin is all that i can tell thats different. alternator numbers seem to match those of trucks that have factory tow.

however, i only seem to have 4 wires running to the trailer. i can find nothing for brake wiring up inside driver kick panel. is it hidden somewhere different on the manual trucks? all others i look at i can find in a snap but they are automatics.

if the p/o installed this package after sale, it doesn't make sense to install a 6-pin with no plans for trailer brakes. im confused

i guess basically i want to know if this is a factory package package or not. whats a sure-fire way to tell? dont want to buy wiring for trailer brakes if its already in there somewhere

the oil filter sits upside down even without the oil cooler.

thats totally lame. kinda bummed right now. no cooler, no trailer brakes, paid too much. shoulda known.

at least its not as bad as my 92 was when i bought it. "wonder what that ticking is?" i became well educated in how an over-head camed 4-banger works shortly thereafter. ohhh and the things we learn

If you have the dealer installed 4 wire trailer wiring from the dash to the rear, its not that hard to wire for trailer brakes. Thats what I did on mine.

I'm not aware of any base models with tow package, only SR5s and above.

thanks landphil i didn't realize there was a dealer "4-wire" which is why i had a hard time believing that mine had any less than 7; because it is a neat, factory-looking harness front to rear

so i guess my next project is to run some trailer-brake conductors so that when i get my super-bad-dog bass boat sometime in the near future (thats spanish for within 20 years or so lol) i can actually tow it home
