Yeah, weird how some have 3, some 4, not total consistency across models.

For reference, I have 4 leafs and had 620 lbs in the bed (measured on the scales at the county landfill). The load was dirt and river rock and most of it in the center of the bed since I had to shovel it in from the rear because I have a topper. The topper is the Leer 180, so maybe 180 lbs (???).

So that's apx 800 lbs on the rear axle. Had about 2.5" to the bump stop. I checked it in the garage on level surface because the truck is new to me and I'm anal that way. Didn't feel the truck bottom out on a couple of bad bridge joints and a couple of RR crossings, pretty darn close to bottoming though. I hit them at the same speed I normally would just to check if the truck would bottom (because the truck is new to me and I'm anal that way).

Not too bad with 4 leafs and a load not optimally distributed. I have no idea if 3 leafs would perform similarly.

    Yup that is ridiculous,

looks like we might need to start writing toyota and get the 2012's included in the tsb if possible.

Thanks for posting the pics maybe show these to another dealership.

You 2012 guys need to complain the the dealer to get your 4-leaf pack. In the summer of '09 I noticed the problem bottoming out while under load and off-roading. I took it to the dealer. The dealer had to have a factory regional representative approve the swap to the 4-leaf pack because back then the TSB wasn't applicable to the '09's. The 4-leaf pack was an improvement over the factory 3-leaf for me.

So in short you gotta be persistent.

I think I'm going to go the air bag route in my 3-leafer '12 and call it a day.

In your case I wouldn't waste one minute of time on it either.

On a general note... it is frustrating how some dealers will do it without much trouble at all, and other dealers it's like pulling teeth.

I thought about that also but consider the possibility of the airbags ripping under full axle droop off road, also airbags replace your bump stops and supposedly MUST always have a minimum amount of air in them at all times.

I just checked mine, it has 4 leafs.... DCLB Sport (with tow package).

BTW, I think the 'tow package' is standard equipment in the DC SB/LB versions..... no?

3 flat springs indeed! :annoyed:Was just looking at mine. Kinda frustrating. Got a hundred pound work bench in the bed and a half tank of gas and they are flat if not slightly inverted! Time to go have a little pow-wow at the dealer. Wish me luck!

AAL will NOT add to the load, they cant change factory specs. Is your truck payload 1000 lbs? Mine is 1240 I believe (V6 DC SB)

Called dealership this morning, deferred me to Toyota corp since 2012's havent been added to the old TSB. Nice, truck is now 8 days old and 4 tires & wheels in the back almost caused me to bottom out today. Still love my MGM though!

Well i dont have the trd package but ordered my 2012 sr5 dcsb taco back in october with tow package and 4x4. It has 4 leaf rear springs and I do notice significant sag when I have a load. However when towing either of my 2 trailers it hardly sags. I didn't specify when ordering nor was it made clear what springs I was getting. Almost seems like the luck of the draw what trucks get.

    Not really,

    99% of sport, sr5 and canada trucks have 4 leaf......offroad have 3.
I am pretty sure the off roads have 3 for increased flex but with a higher spring rate for the same load carrying capacity as the 4 leaf setup.

These are not heavy duty haulers but should be able to carry stated load without hitting bumpstops.

Offroad access cab, 4 springs. Canadian truck.

Out of curiosity, why do the Canadian trucks all get the extra leaf?
