Thanks. I've been through Bishop at least a dozen times and love the views around there. Never done any trails, but it is beautiful country and I imagine there's gotta be some good camping in the area. This is in a county park just a couple miles north of town-

I mean if nothing else you guys should go out to the frog ponds, I can send you a link to google maps. It's easy to find, and then you can get out on the playa and mess around. Drive up to soldier meadows and mess around, check out double hot springs etc etc.. nothing too crazy but it'd be fun. Camp out, roast some hot dogs, drink some beer, go for a dip in the springs.

Maybe shooting for August would be better? Unfortunately I ended up in North Dakota this summer rather than NV and I won't be home till the last week of August :(

Gotta make some good money before school starts back up.

Get out your maps (or go to Google maps and type in Donnelly Creek, Humboldt, Nevada) and check out the road to Soldier Meadows. As soon as you cross Donnelly Creek (almost certainally dry), look to your right towatd the playa.....On the right will be a road (Wheeler Ranch Road) and old abandoned ranch/corral (Wheeler Ranch)......look for the green vegitation. Great place to hot spring.

Just past Wheeler Ranch Road on your left paralleling Soldier Meadows Road(probably overgrown with sagebrush) if you look hard enough, there is an old US Navy emergency landing strip. The south Black Rock was an air-ground gunnery range during WWII.

Past the airstrip, on your left, there is a road (Angela Opal Mine Road) that goes to an opal mine. Don't know if it is still active. Across from the opal mine road, on your right there are some more trees and a green area just off of the Soldier Meadows road. Another hot springs and great camping area.

    Have fun!!!!!

I would be interested in Bishop in September. Thats about the time I plan on taking some leave and I have been looking at camping in that area already. Looks like a great place to go.
