Help. I have an 06 Tacoma, 4.0 engine, having an issue with one of the sensors I'm guessing? Does anyone know what would cause the speed odometer to stop working, random other warning lights, (abs, tire press, brake), the fuel gauge moves around like the gas in the tank is doing....no steady read. I've google'd it and some people say speed sensor.???? Any help is appreciated.

chech your belt sound like your alt not working. also make sure your battery has good connections and a ground check your fuses also with test light. charge your battery if you brought it down to low volts

Battery is new optima red. Alternator is good. It did this about a month ago, then the next day, it was fixed. Just happened again last week and still no fix. I've been reading about VSS??

I read alot about the VSS going wack in the 6 inch+ thread...or maybe it was Pogiboys 3 inch lift thread. But I never heard of the gas going wack from that either.

thats why i thought it was the alternotor. this happens when alts go bad or you have bad grounds. op did you check your grounds. what ohms do they read. how do you know alt is good did you perform the test. amps good. what is the ohm reading from your engine to the ground by the battery?

Its a fuse... Check the fuses in the cab.. It should be a 15 or 20 and I think it is labeled "ALT" on the diagram or "IGN1".. I have the same problem every now and then..

speed sensor or fuse. depending on where the speed sensor is it should be fairly easy to replace, worth a shot anyways.

Thank you to all of you guys for helping. I've had the alternator tested, it's fine. I checked all internal fuses...still no fix. The speed sensor is my last resort BUT, where the hell is it. There are a couple of sensors on the transmission. Any help is much appreciated.

I printed it...thanks again. Now the great question....Is this a dealer part only? Cuz I've spent an hour trying to find it online at AZ or Oreilly..and notta! On;y showing speed sensors for the wheels. Sheesh what a headache...Anyone know if this is a dealer only part?
