I just keep re-scheduling the court date as many times as I can. Most of the time the cops don't show up, case dropped.

    I had a court appointed.

Honestly, I have no idea. I know I was not doing 55 though. There were cars in front of me and behind me. Motorcycles just "look" like they're going fast, even while sitting still, lol.

BUCKLE UP! It makes it harder for Aliens to pull you out of your Truck.
It would have cost you alot more if you retained a Lawyer. F Lawyers whenever possible. Congrats on the outcome. [IMG]

If the cop didn't use radar or other equipment, how is he supposed to establish you are speeding? Unless you meant the cop lying in court and saying he used the radar.

I think that's the best you could have hoped for.

Let me guess... it was a Campus Cop (glorified rent-a-cop, your age or younger) who popped you?

That may have had something to do with it.

    $260? I wish... I rip a fart in the direction of a cop and it's $350+
Our cheapest fines are seat belt and cell phone/texting... $160 1st offense.

Even with California's insane traffic fines and high insurance rates, it's not economical to spend $2k+ on a lawyer.

Maybe if you're at the point where one more ticket gets your license revoked.

He used radar, but every case in court that day (he had multiples) was the same story...

Cop was heading TOWARD the person cited and wrote them for 15-25 over... approximately 10 over what they would admit to.

Cop ultimately got reassigned due to complaints from the residents in that community (LaMirada)... speeding was the complaint.

So the guy would drive down the road and pop people on radar, then rather than deduct his speed from the reading, he'd deduct the limit, or 5 under, or whatever he felt like using.

Officer Maldonado for anyone who was with LASO in the mid 80s.

    But to address this...

Part of Radar certification in California requires being able to visually estimate speed to within 5mph.

The odd numbers rather than rounded 20 or 10 mph is to get your attention. We get so used to seeing 35mph or 55mph that we don't even pay attention to it, but if they change it to 34mph or 52mph instead, you see it and look again because it is different, and then you look at your speedometer because it tickles your curiosity, and then hopefully you make the necessary adjustment if you were over.
Studies have proven it to be effective, but only for users new to the road; after a few times you just start ignoring that sign also.
