    I just bought my 2012 Tacoma and have always used a bug deflector on my other vehicles. I didn't find that many options for the 2012 Tacoma yet and found the TRD OEM deflector on Amazon for $120. It comes with brackets and hangs off of the hood a couple of inches. Is this normal for an OEM model? My old 4Runner just mounted straight to the hood with some plastic clips and screws. This OEM system has brackets, then mounts to the brackets.

    Does anyone have any good pictures or recommend anything for the 2012 Taco?
    The OEM thing looks a little funny to me.

    Thanks
    Doug

    I've had the same problem. The truck is a bug magnet, but there isn't much out there that I can find. I've been keeping an eye on AutoAnything and they do have a couple, but nothing that seems functional. I guess the manufacturers are still trying to catch up after the model year change.

    Don't get the OEM unless you want to check the mounts every so often. I had the OEM on my 12 and have now had to replace two screws and all of the protective tape. I'm going to hit the screws with some loctite this time. Hoping to keep from stopping on the interstate to uninstall the damn thing cause another screw came loose and the shield is reeking havoc on my paint.

    Don't get the over priced, under engineered OEM one. I bolted on an AVS perfectly and it was only $60. Good luck

    So, answer me this, since I have never owned a "bug deflector";
    Less bugs will be on my vehicle?
    I never got one because they seem to have no real use except making it more difficult to wash the truck and collecting snow and ice in the winter.
    I would like to have less bugs on my vehicle, but highly doubt the effectiveness of this product.

    So the AVS has a low profile one and a bolt on? I bought the Factory one off Amazon for 120 but now I wish I got the AVS for half. Lesson learned.

    Some one did mention that the bolt on one screws tend to come loose, and I am starting to see that now after 5-6 months.

    I had a 99 taco for twelve years 220k miles and had a number of rock chips etc on the front of my hood. I figured I'd minimize this on my new '12 by adding a bug deflector. AVS all the way. Line X Albuquerque had it in my hands in three days.:thumbsup:

    Hey bud

    I ordered a clear black in color one tailored for my Taco and paid only $60, they had to order it for store pickup. It has fared well so far!

    The Toyota oem one is a piece of shit. It uses metal brakets that mount over the hood on top of the paint. Even though it comes with vinyl pads the brakets wear right through and into the paint. I had it on for a couple years and ended up throwing it in the garbage. I replaced it with one i bought from Cabela's...i believe it's the AVS brand... mounts under the hood and doesn't touch the paint.

    I have a weathertech and no problems.. believe I got it in 3-4 days from Autoanything.. 5 minute install and that was due to losing my beer for 4 of those minutes but no worries and looks good.
