I always had stripped down vehicles, been that I plan on keeping this one for many years I went all out this time.

The extra couple thousand seems like alot but over a few years it evens out not to mention if you decide to sell the TRD trucks will still command a premium sales price.

Buy what makes you happy especially if you plan on driving the wheels off it. If you buy and sell every two years get the SR5 and save a few dollars.

You should definitely test drive sr5, trd sport, & trd off-road. And then think long term about the costs... meaning if you think there's a noticeable difference in comfort or drive or kewlness buy the more expensive one if it is at all affordable.

Not only because of resale value but because you will spend a LOT of time over a LOT of years in this truck, and you don't want to feel like you settled every time you get in it.

(Based on what you shared I'd recommend a TRD Sport, because it has a hood scoop.)

I heard the TRD skid plates were a big deal.

OK, after test driving, I am leaning a bit towards the TRD (sorry to those of you who are intelligent and practical and were hoping I'd be the same... I may be selling out).

The seats are certainly nicer... When I think about pricing, the invoice price for TRD is about 1800 over SR5, and I kind of think that'd make a difference at resale time (that the TRD would be more desirable). The other thing that I might like I guess is a skid plate. I don't think I'll do much off roading, but I do ding the occasional rock. Plus it might protect against flying pebbles when you're cruising on a graded road?

The problem is that I was foolish enough to walk into a dealership and the salesguy took me out in a TRD model (he's no dummy). But I had to at least do a test drive. The rest of this deal is all being done from home.

    Thanks again to all.

I just have an SR5, but I have no problems with the seats. The lumbar support seems to help. I love the SR5, but for 1 or 2k, I'd get the TRD.

    I bought a brand new 2011 SR5 last year.
    IMG-20110521-00005_8dbdf78f04703955649c4b09f360b44150b5ef57.jpg

And turned it into this in less than a year.

I was going to upgrade the suspension anyway so I didn't see the need in spending the extra cash. The seats are nice in the TRD, but there is absolutely nothing wrong with the SR5 seats that I have found.

    Too few to list.
Test drive both and go with what you can afford.

OK, so the backup camera also seems like a nice feature since I'll often have a camper on the back. Anybody know where the camera is mounted -- like, will it work if there's a popup slide in camper in the bed and the tailgate is removed?

    Thanks again.

(So far the things I might justify spending money on in the TRD package: backup camera, fog lights, maybe the skid plate, maybe the seats, maybe the tires)

Sweet roof rack and bed extender!
I found that often times buying the SR5 didn't save any money. I ended up getting a TRD offroad for about 500 more than SR5 and less than a Sport. I just found a truck that had been sitting on the lot for a while and had heavy discounts. I think my base price after discounts for TRD OffRoad was $28,500, including bed extender. Oh, but that was a double cab, so I guess that price doesn't mean much to you.

If I was going to lift and change stuff I would probably buy an SR5 , if not I would get the TRD

Not really, but I wonder if the wiring harness is the same if its possible to just get the parts to add in the plug? Anyone.

I really prefer the TRD or TRD sport mostly because of the upgraded seats. I had an SR5 before and the seats don't nearly compare to the TRD or TRD Sport seats.

Edit: Guess the seats aren't worth a few thousands dollars so you could upgrade if needed, but I'm sure swapping out the seats would be a pretty penny.

I would have liked the TRD OR because of all the cool switches and the locker. But my SR5 is great! I like the seats BETTER than the TRD believe it or not. And my SR5 has the tow package and a backup camera so it's not like it's stripped. My SR5 got me around perfectly in the biggest snow we've had here in 50 years (19 inches in one night in Winter '10) on Dunflops (granted, they were 2 months old) so I couldn't have asked for more out of the TRD!

You are correct -- thank you. I got confused somehow.

So if the camera's on the tailgate, does it work if you remove the tailgate (or the thing that flips up at the back of the truck... not sure if I'm thinking of the right word right now)?
