Hey guys I changed my front drivers side wheel bearing last week. Check out these pics of the damage on the outer race, pretty weird, only 90,000kms.

Pretty ugly, how'd the cages look? Wonder if they damaged that race when they pressed it all together, 55k miles isn't very good so it wouldn't surprise me if that's what happened.

Same thing happened to me at 88,000 kms on my 2009dc. Only on the driver's side.... no problems with the passenger side (yet).

A lot of 4 wheeling in water tends to wash the grease out.

    Looks overheated.
Those bearings start to get loose at about 30K if nobody tightens them then grease leaks out and they just fall appart. I replaced mines at almost 45K and now tighten them every 3000K to keep them solid.
As long as they stay together seals will keep grease inside.
I highly recommend filling new bearings with tons of Mobil 1 grease and then re tighten them to spec every 3000 miles especially in cases where there are over sized tires.

When you buy new bearing you can separate it and fill with grease. They are sold with no grease and needs to be packed.

Grillcraft, with front and rear bumper/bed in the works.
What are you re torqueing? When mine went out I replaced the whole hub assembly, well had the dealer do it because they gave me a hell of deal since they didnt have to press out the old bearing.

you need to retorque CV nut if you have 4wd, Bearing adjust nut if you have prerunner. the only thing I would worry about dealer doing work is if they filled new bearing with grease.

i just drive into fishing lakes and campin spots every other weekend, lots of mud\water holes\light offroading. I replaced the bearing assembly and did not pack with grease, its a complete unit, how could it not be greased from factory?

It is but not very well. Best to pull out the bearings and then pack em full of high quality hi-temp disc wheel bearing grease. I used valvoline full synthetic. I like valvoline personally and it comes highly recommended, even over mobil 1, in multiple threads over on BITOG

    They aren't sealed bearings.

They are bearings inside the hub which has seals to protect the bearings inside by retaining the grease.

As I stated and by others here the grease washed out. Lots of water will wash out the grease regardless of the seal on the hub. 4 X 4 = More maintenance.
