    jeez.. and you have 4:10's.

my reg cab wasnt a slouch i didnt think. had 285 BFG MT KM2's on it that were 10 ply. i had to shift down to go up decent sized hills, especially on the interstate but i could always put my foot in the imaginary carburetor and get her going pretty good.

There's the other half of your problem.

#1 - You are going a lot faster than the speedo indicates, so you are attempting to maintain a much higher speed than you think
#2 - The larger tires effectively raise your final drive ratio. 4th gear is no longer direct... you now have two overdrive gears.

It does seem the engines sweet spot starts around 2000 rpm. This is where I like to keep the engine on level or small grades. If its a big hill, I am usually okay around 2500 to 3000 rpm.

It would be nice if they tuned the engine so that the sweet spot starts around 1500 rpm instead of 2000, especially for people with stick shifts. I think the driving experience would be even better that way. No you won't be able to rev the engine as high, but how often would you honestly need to wind it out that much?

The 2.7's peak torque is around 3800 rpm and the 4.0 is around 4000 rpm. That doesn't seem street friendly to me. 2500-3500 rpm torque peak seems more street friendly imo.
