I just lift my 2012 about 3-4 weeks ago. And put my wheels and tires on at the same time..
I now hear this roaring sound that gets higher pitched when going faster.. I know its not the front diff. bearing bc I went threw that hole thing with my 07... The noise is still there when in 4x4..

I will be taking it to the dealer next weekend, to see what they come up with... But Im pretty sure its a wheel bearing. which is stupid! its a brand new truck!

Sounds about right. You sure its not your tires though? Even 50k miles later I swear it have a bearing going out sometimes but its the tires.

Really? I have about 8-10k miles on my duratracs.. I geuss it could be.
But it does seem to go away when i turn right.. But when i turn left it seems like i can hear and feel it more..
Maybe i should wait to see if it gets worse.. I only have 3k miles on my 12'

I wonder how many tacoma's have had bad wheel bearings after only 3-5k miles???

Did you have it aligned after the lift?

Wheels, Tires and a Lift all at the same time... Then noise. I would say something is related here. It would be highly unlikely that a wheel bearing is gone at 3K miles. Probably alignment or tires or some of each.

It is very possible for the wheel bearing to be faulty from the factory. I have indeed done pre-delivery inspections where the wheel bearing was faulty, and I replaced it before customer delivery.

this, dont take it to the dealer yet.

So he has a faulty wheel bearing from the factory. Tough luck because now he has a lift, wheels, tires and they WILL say tough luck to him, regardless of 3k miles or not the aftermarket parts "have everything to do with a wheel bearing going bad".

OP, check this out yourself before you think about taking it to the dealer. Invest 30-60 minutes at home and investigate this yourself. Then post up what you have experienced.

wheel bearing went bad in my reg cab, after lift and 285's and i was fucked. there is someone on here selling a set of two for a good price though, just sucks you cant put it in yourself... and a little advice, if you turn left and you hear/feel it then most it is most likely the RIGHT wheel bearing. the reason being that all the force is being put on the opposite side bearing from where you are turning. < thats valuable so you dont do it twice!

Go to rockauto.com and get the whole hub. Its cheap and easy to replace/install without worrying about dealing with bearings. IIRC toyota dealers sell the hub and do it that way instead of dealing with actually packing new bearings in.

I've done it both ways. 90% of the time the hub is salvageable. It most definitely will be on a 2012.

I will look at it myself this week. I jacked it up today and spun the front tires and they sounded fine..
I did my lift wheels and tires all at the same time. Not sure if that matters. But i did get my allignment done a few days after i did the install. They were able to get my caster alittle above 3*
So i hope that doesnt have anything to do with it.

A wheel bearing with the races and seal cost about $12.00 and takes about 10 minutes to swap out. What's the problem?

Did you take the wheel bearings, races and seal out when you lifted the truck? How did the lift kit affect the wheel bearings? How would a lift kit affect a wheel bearing? I would read through the Magnuson-Moss Act before I would automatically say something you did to your vehicle voids the warranty.

If it isn't the wheel bearing how about the angles for the drive line?

^^. I was thinking driveline angles also.. I lowered the carrier bearing and i only have a slight take off shudder. Very minimal..

I have a diff. Drop kit in also.. But i dont think it would be that..

I do need to get my tires re balanced, so i will see what happens after that.
But if it doesnt go away. I will take it to the dealer. My dealer Usually is really good, and doesnt care much about lifts amd big tires. Bc they sell lifted tacoma's all the time..

Just in case- Those tires you put on are noisy and whine. We may have inadvertently overlooked this. Check out this youtube video on tire noise http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6TsZag81FsU that is normal and if you didn't re-align your vehicle the noise could be worse. Here is a bad bearing http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jHIjsvt9x6Y&feature=related

You're dealer may be great, but you need to be prepared to to pay for EVERYTHING THEY do to diagnose your problem and that is probably going to be pretty expensive.

If you installed your lift kit yourself call the manufacture, eat crow and say you may have done something wrong and ask them. Don't blame the manufacture or they won't answer your question. Also you can find a 4-wheel drive shop near you and ask them. Unless I knew something was a warranty item, I would use the dealer a a last resort. Dealers are greedy beast - they are not Toyota of America, but businesses operated to make money.

Man you've got a good looking truck - good luck.

Just curious, what did you change the gear ratio to? And could you easily find the new pinion for the speedometer sensor?

Allignment is great and drives good and straight..
My local dealers service department is great to work with and will def. look at it and diagnose it for free... Bc I know them.. :) But I agree Im going to go there as a last resort..

To all you guys claiming he can't get it taken care of under warranty..... kindly refrain. I got a new front diff under warranty with my current setup. A good dealership will take care of him.
