My roommate recently got a 2002 Tacoma Double Cab V6 PreRunner 2WD with 107k miles and paid $12,300. I think he paid too much but he still thinks he got a steal on it.

    photo2-1_ce30bada7eb839072d05ae6757d673d2f594b84d.jpgphoto3_ccfb85de83c28e9b45eb0ee8134d3042b031665b.jpg

I'm personally not a fan of debadging, or the tail lights, or the chrome wheels/grill/bumper with the tan paint.

    What do you guys think?

Well tacomas hold their resale value isn't that what we all talk about??
The truck looks clean & if it spent its life down south & has a clean frame that is half the battle.
All the ones up here are priced high and rusted out or priced high with a new frame go figure.

Prerunners command a higher price (though that one's been streeted out with the tires and rims), but last December I bought... FROM A DEALERSHIP.... a 2008 2.7 5-lug regular cab for about $14k out the door.

    Seems he paid too much.

Prerunners command a higher price? Hopefully i have decent luck selling mine then (need a new Sienna).

Either way...if the truck gives him years of reliable service then the extra cash he paid for piece of mind was worth it.

Huh? AFAIK a 4x4 has more value than any pre-runner.

I think he meant a Pre Runner brings more than a 5 lugger.:)

Price is dependent where you are in the country. In any case, sounds like a decent deal by California standards. Double cabs are still expensive trucks. I bought mine (prerunner) with 140k for 11k a couple years ago. If he's happy, that's all that matters.

Yup... OP's friend got a Prerunner, which would be more than a comparable 5 lug.

    Now the differences....

    Advantage mine - 2008 vs 2002
    Advantage mine - 54k vs 107k

Everything else, advantage goes to the OP's friend. It's a Prerunner, Doublecab, looks like an SR5 (chrome bumper, sliding window, flares), and alloy wheels.

I bought my Tacoma (2002, V6, 4x4, E-Locker, TRD, SR5 with 111K) for $8000 at the dealership! And it was in good shape! KBB said $12000. Not to mention this is in the North East where salt has eaten most of the Tacomas up here.

I think a truck like that should have cost 9-10k....

    but it looks clean....whatever.

It depends on where you are.
Mine is a 2002 with 90,000 miles, and I had an offer for $13,500 just recently. A friend of mine just recently sold his 2001 DC pre-runner with 146,000 miles for $11,750.

Op's friend seems to have a well-kept truck, so it is a good deal in my opinion.

Little overpriced. My dad is currently trying to sale his 01 Tacoma double cab 4x4 Trd and he's asking 11,300.

The litteratrue I have read also leads that the prerunners hold value more so than the 4x4's. Reasoning is that 4x4 are more likely to see harsher environments, or use.
