I have a squeaky new 2012 Tacoma 4x4 access cab SR5 and want to goto 255/85R16 tires (the BFG M/T KM2 is my pick).

Will a 2" lift let me run these tires without rubbing or do I need more like 3" of front tift? I would like to keep costs under control, but can buy uni-ball upper control arms if needed.

Should I go to a new coilover with extended length, or can I get the Bilstien 5100 shocks and re-use some of my stock components (only 800 miles on the truck so far).

For the back I want the truck about level, so 1" from an AAL should do, or is a new spring pack really better?

I want to do this right and not have to swap to something better in a year. I have been reading here but not seen anything specifically for these "tall-skinny" tires.

Truck will do occasional light hauling, some highway, and as much desert play as I can find time for!

    Your replies appreciated.

    I have 255/85/16 BFG KM2s on 1st Gen TRDs (4.5"BS) with a full 3" lift front & rear.
No rubbing/trimming (slightly brush the bump on the mud flap if I'm at full lock & bounce the front too hard).

Sounds good guys! I appreciate the replies and links to other threads. Now just have to get a set of aftermarket Tire Pressure Sensors, have them mounted (and calibrated) on my new 8x18 wheels and then get a set of the MK2 tires in 255/86R16.

What is the BS of those wheels ?

You could skip the TPMS and put them in a pressure vessel in the truck .

That tire is only 31 3/4" tall

    The 255/85/16 is 33 3/8" tall

the new wheels are Konig Countersteer Offroad in matte bronze, 16" x 8" wide, Offset is zero. If I do the math correct I think this yeilds a backspace of 4.5"

I actually would not mind this size tire on an un-lifted truck as it gains some heigth without adding weight. But they will not fit on an 8" wide wheel.

I have narrowed down my choices to the 255/85R16 (only a couple tires available in this size), or the 265/75R16 ( lots of tires to select from).

Now I just have to wait on my suspension on order at DownSouth motorsports: Camburg UCA, ICON extended travel coilovers, ICON remote Res rear shocked and ICON "helper" springs. I only do fairly mild offroading, but I like speed when possible!

Could anyone answer this question for a 1st Gen? Would my setup of 881s and an aal be sufficient?

What is your center wheel hub to fender measurement up front?
Some run these with a little lift by changing the bumpstops to keep them from rubbing.

So my lift will be right about 2" (to keep the on-road ride nice). I do not want to have to loose the mud flaps so I think I will have to go with a 265/75R16 tire. I hope the tires dont look lost inside the fenders!

Your truck is looking good! I will go to the "tire calculator" and see the heigth on your size. I like the idea of the "tall & skinny" tires, but don't want any hassle with fitment....

Thanks a lot. I believe that picture was taken before i had the front readjusted. I would still like to try and get the front up a lil more but i haven't had any issues with rubbing since.
