I recently bought a pair of the older SAW 2.0's for a 1st gen. They are the old design with the adjustment collar on the bottom.

I took them out wheeling this weekend and noticed one side was clanking after driving on some washboard type terrain. When I stopped the 4runner I notice the bushing between the top plate and the nut on the top of the shock shaft had gone over the washer and was sitting on top of the shaft. It was bored out from going over the washer and nut.

You can see the order of parts I'm talking about in this picture.

I ended up putting the bushing back in and retightening the nut down, but it ended up happening 2 more times and happened on the other side as well. Does anyone have any idea why this is happening? I'm going to order a new bushing and pick up a Grade 8 washer that has a larger diameter to cover the entire bushing.

Sorry for the confusion, it's a bit tough to explain when typing. The bushing on top of the top plate went over the washer and nut on the top of the shaft. So in the second pic, the red bushing was pushed to the top of the shock shaft. Here is a very crude picture showing which bushing and where it ended up.

stronger bushing and/or possibly a larger diameter nut to keep it from "jumping" over it? Seems like the bushing is just too soft and when the shock compresses rapidly alot(like it will over washboard stuff) it prob is just gets soft and simply pushes over it. Prob not the worst thing and not horribly tough to fix. I wonder if a small washer between the nut and bushing could solve the issue?

edit.....looks there is a washer.....make it larger in diameter? new bushings too should help.....might be worn.

Yeah I need to get new bushing on both sides and larger diameter washers. I just want to make sure I didn't hurt anything or missing something important. Thanks for the response.

Oh ok I see. Ya. Buy a new bushing but more importantly a larger grade 8 washer. That should do it!

That's what I plan on doing. The washer caved in the first time and got straightened out by the second time I had to fix it. Definitely not big enough or strong enough.

Not yet. I didn't want to mess with them before my trip in case my CV's started puking. I think once I receive these bushings I'm going to bump the height up more. You get yours on yet?

Not yet.. Still need to get the nitrogen in them. I went to a place with a setup but he had an old regulator that wouldn't fit on the schrader valve since it's recessed (stupid design). I'm back to square one on finding a place. They're going on regardless thursday cus I'm tired of waiting and my buddy has that evening open to help.
