No money, all went to truck...
I seen a tacoma with a shell and rack like that. He had angle iron along both sides of the bed and the camper sat ontop of the angle iron. The angle iron had tabs(don't know a better way of explaing that) sticking out past the sides of the truck and the rack sat ontop of the tabs. To me it was damn ugly having the rack sit farther out that the rest of the truck but I guess its a good solution if you need both a camper and a shell.

well its cause i wanted a roof rack that i can put a platform on to have a RTT on and still have room infront of it to have more storage. or tojust be able to put a kayak or two and it seemed like a good alternative to have two different racks. plus i my ranch sierra topper wasnt made to carry a lot of weight.

    Build thread in sig...
It's not hard to build one, or even adapt an existing one (as long as it's wide enough). I drew up one that i was going to build for a friend's t-100. we ended up going a different way and jsut put a roof rack on the cap and i built him some shelving for inside the cap.
all you really do is build a rack or take an existing one, then extend the brackets to go between the cap and bed rails. 1/4'' plate works well for this. then anchor it to the bed tracks and/or bed bolts. here's the t-100 design

Where's that from? I'd love to get something like that to go with my softopper. I really want a RTT but don't want to sacrifice the bed or get a hard shell.

those both are good ideas its just hard getting the material here in kodiak since its an island. if i was back in the main land it would be way easier. i have a a guy i work with that could weld it and i have jake (jeverich) thats here on kodiak that offered his time/welding skills as well. im going to see wat is the cheaper option. if i can get a rack thats already made for cheaper than building on than im just going to go with the aluminess one. thanks for the help tho guys thats exactly the kinda pics i was looking for.

Ya , sorry , I meant the one in the OP

The Aluminess one looks cool but seems a bit too close to the roof IMHO
