I know that there are many threads on this but I haven't found a final response. 2005 std cab 2.7 5spd manual. Diesel sound while idling, exaggerated when A/C is on. Clutch makes sound go away.

mine has done it since day one, push in the clutch, it's less pronounced. no issues. my friends 2.7 o8 has done it since new as well. he has over 100k now, still does it.

when was the last time the tranny oil was changed? some fresh slick-stuff might help quiet it down.

what about upon engagement? when you let out the clutch in first gear do you get a waaaarrrrrrsh kinda noise? if thats the case i would start looking at a new clutch and throwout bearing. i thought it was the coolest noise ever for a while on my bro's cummins. like the sound of big-heavy gears meshing together. when we changed his clutch we found his throwout bearing to be toasted

Thanks for the replies, I don't get any weird bearing noise during engagement so I am pretty sure it isnt the throw out bearing. Must just be characteristic of the design. Seems like most people have the sound and it isn't causing problems.

well, once again, if you dont know when the tranny oil was last changed, change it with some high-quality lube.

glad to hear, or not hear i guess your throwout bearing. and if nobody has done it yet, and im not sure if im qualified to do this, but, welcome to Tacoma World! and cool truck btw.

Mine has done it since new (got truck with 1 mile on it). There was a large thread on this that I replied to just a few days ago, several pages. I thought it was normal but I think that thread had some people claiming it was not normal. It certainly does sound like shit, especially if you're next to a building (bank drive thru, diarrhea food drive thru, etc). My clutch has been fucky anyway since day one so who knows. Anyone else notice that the truck still makes a whirring noise with clutch pressed to the floor? All my other cars are dead silent with clutch pushed in, this one still whines when I push clutch in to come to a stop light. Not to hijack, though...

Thanks again for the replies and thanks for the warm welcome dlxman. I will be changing trans fluid ASAP and its good to hear that this seems to be a normal and common thing. Here is a picture of my truck for fun: ImageUploadedByTapatalk1347124660.437944.jpg
