Would it trip out the computer if i switch the old style MAF sensor to the later model ones ????? the connection looks the same i just want to know if it will read it correct. i just got a K&N filter but the tube is for a later model where the MAF screws on.

UPDATE : i got a brand new MAF sensor for an 04 1st gen taco, i installed the intake tube and screwed on the new MAF sensor on the intake and plug it in on my 98 taco, got everything to fit good, everything clipped fine. But when i went to go turn on the truck, it didnt start right up, it kinda sounded like it was having a hard time, finally second try it started and idled fine but the check engine light was on, i knew it was the MAFS, and when i came to throttle it, it sounded gut less and it was cutting out, when i took it for a drive, it was gut less i stepped on the throttle to go and it would barley move so i turned it around parked it and switched everything back to how i had it. and it working fine again.
So does anybody know if there's a way to fix this ? or can it be done???? the connection is exactly the same so i thought it would work.

I did this on a 97 S/C Cruiser that I had with a Tundra MAF. it worked perfectly BUT there were two wires that I had to switch in the connector since toyota moved the position between the two. I would look at that closely to make sure you are one for one on the wire designation. That rig really benefitted from that mod. I'm running a TT Supra MAF on my 98 S/C Taco and it was plug and play. Tuned with the piggy back of course.

Interesting - I have considered this but never did try to swap the MAF's ... If you do get it to work by swapping wires in the harness then let us know.

There are some physics important to consider. I don't say you won't be able to make it works. If the inside diameter is not the same, the data will be different.

It works like a hot wire that is being cooled by the air that pass around it. The ECU calculate how much air it goes troughthe sensor to cool the wire of a given temperature. The point is it's calibrated to work in a given area.

So as I said, it could work but for sure your ECU will have to compensate the difference. Could make you some CEL sometimes.

Settings up the wires at the good place should make your truck start and make it driveable.

Ya the newer one have the small one that screws on and it's around that price. The one like mine goes for around $230 or more.
