    I'm looking to get a 2011-2012 4dr 4x4 Tacoma soon.
This will be my 4th Toyota build, FJ60-FZJ80- FJ Cruiser I added front bumpers on these and had recovery points for shackles.
This build I'm wanting to keep simple and not add a extra $700.00+ bumper just for recovery points & a place to mount lights.
What's everyone using that's running a factory bumper? I haven't had a look up under the bumpers yet to even know whats up under there.

    Thanks, Kirk
Anyone want to buy a '07 FJ Cruiser?

This is the recovery hook on the passenger side.

And the recovery point on the driver's side. (in this picture, there is an aftermarket skid, but the u-shaped thing in the top left is stock.)

The TRD Sport models do not come with the tow hook installed. Only the Off-Roads get it stock. Not sure if you already had made up your mind on what trim level you are getting but wanted to give you a heads up.

and this is not officially a recovery point. that's the tie down loop for the trip across the pond. Some folks have hooked to it without issue, but its not officially endorsed.

and the TRD Sport still has an eyelet on the passenger side, its just not quite the same as the TRD Off-Road hook.

Does Toyota list the strength or pull rating on either of those attachment points? I always thought those were merely tie-down points the workers use when the vehicle is being transported and not frame-strength recovery points.

    Am I wrong again? :D

I think all Toyotas I've owned have had this loop, I also have been told its a tie down point for the vehicles and not really the best spot for a recovery.
I have used it before and it's worked but there are a lot of things that can go wrong if if fails under a hard pull.

From what I remember reading the eyelet that the TRD Sport has on the passenger side is not meant for recovery. It is a tie down that they use during transport. Which makes sense when you look at it, because it definitely doesn't look like it was designed to be yanked on too much.

as far as strength goes, i used both the recovery hook and the tie down for multiple nasty recoveries on the old yota. the worst was like an 80 deg (sideways) pull and hub-deep in mud. it just bent the bolts a bit. the points on this truck look to be of similar quality.

I Would like to put actual hooks or something there as i dont think i will be putting a bumper on my 12' and i have not been able to find anything that i could hook up there to use. would be nice to know if there was such a recovery point.

This is the thread I was referencing: http://www.tacomaworld.com/forum/off-roading-trails/138114-front-recovery-points.html

I went ahead and bought the tow hook that comes on the Off-Road for my Sport. If I am getting pulled out I don't want to have to worry about the tie-down or the eyelet becoming a metal missile that could possibly hurt a person or a vehicle.

WheelinJ91, the part numbers for the tow hook and the hardware to install it are in that thread I posted the link to.

Hmm good to know, I'm still deciding if i want a full front bumper or not. it will depend on if i buy a pre 1990 4runner and turn it into a offroad rig.

This is the route I would go. If I were still in the military I would buy an older 4runner, tacoma or yota pickup to build into a trail rig. But me and the wifey are in college now so I have $0 for anything like that. Maybe someday... :D

Yeah i really want to keep my 12' simple, it is getting a lift and will be putting better tires come spring to get the dirt bike deeper into the bush before i have to unload. And i think i have a sweet line on a 1988 4runner would need a little work but then it could be a slow build.
