Just installed this "JDM" CAI, i think it´s a good option for the price of this, i just would change the filter for a K&N or AIRAID (because of the size) but it works great and sound amazing at high rpm.

It cost me $76usd free shipping in ebay, the brand is "JDM", TRD is the version of my Tacoma here in Mexico, it´s not a true CAI, it´s a short ram intake with heat shield.
The next mod is the PowerAid throttle body spacer, i jus ordered it with other stuff like the tri fold tonneau cover, DRL kit, spare tire lock and Pop n lock power lock for the tailgate.
I´ll pick up those things by the end of the month inmy next travel to TX. (remember i´m in Monterrey, Mexico, at 150 miles of the US border).

So you like spending all your money on mods that do nothing but make a lot of noise?

Spend some time in the performance and tuning section of TW and you'll find some performance mods that actually help with performance. That hot air intake could actually cause you to lose power and that throttle body spacer will do absolutely nothing, literally. Putting a spacer after the butterfly valve doesn't do anything except make your intake tube a bit longer and make a little whistling noise at WOT. If you were going for performance gains, sorry to burst your bubble, if you just wanted the look and sound, you're on the right track.

Should spend your $76USD putting a K&N in the stock box and still save like $25.

    More like a HAI.

And the K&N SUCKS especially if you plan on driving on dirt at all...If I could just find my damn stock filter, I'll put it back in.

Why? I am not experienced with off roading, just street cars. Please explain more about it.

The oil and dirt combo just totally sucks. Cleaning that thing makes me wonder how any air gets through it at all after a trail run.

Understand. So when off roading the dirt get trapped in the oil of the filter and just clog the filter?

What about the TRD CAI? What filter you have in yours, stock box with the stock "paper" type filter?

Well I think the TRD CAI is just a conical filter element, not sure if it needs to be oiled or not, but it's in a box that has an opening to the wheel well where it sucks the air from.

More like luke warm air.... hot air at a stop light

Remember, a dirty air filter filters are better than a clean air filter. It restricts flow, but the air will be cleaner.

That being said, I'm still using a stock filter element. I can't stand the cleaning and oiling process, I'd rather just toss the filter and start fresh.

Oh I know...it's the dirt and grime on the OTHER side of the filter that bothers me

But this thread inspired me to purchase an AFE Pro Dry S filter. Should be getting it this week

Oooh... yeah, that's not a good sign. Hopefully the tubing after the filter is clean. Checking the tube after the filter is a good indicator of how your filter is performing. Some of you guys that go in the desert end up coming across some really fine sand and silt that can push through some crappy filters or even higher performance high flow filters.

I check in their website and the dry filter are like 3-4 plys, the oiled ones are like 5-7 plys. Obviosly the oiled filters protect better, and the non-oiled are for those who doesn't want the hazard to oil their filters.

So do better and go with the oiled ones. The oil is there to keep the filter "cloth" working properly...

Mmm... I have seen like 2-3hp gain with a K&N filter in stock box vs stock paper filter (dyno test). So there should be the same power gain in tacomas...

Oiled provides no benefit over paper, and in the case of our trucks, has been linked to maf malfunctions.

Power gain on V8 Mustang does not equal power gain on V6 Tacoma with an already cold-air-intake from the factory.
