Had an accident last night...

On my way home last night, another driver turned across me in an intersection. I couldn't stop in time . Everyone walked away unharmed, for which I am VERY thankful! The other car was a 4dr Mercury Sable. It's in worse shape with fluids leaking from the front end.

I didn't want to drive the truck and risk damaging it so I had it towed to a body shop where it sits today, waiting on an adjuster to take a look at the damage. I have my fingers crossed that the damage is cosmetic and that the frame/rad are not damaged. Nothing is leaking from the truck. My N-Fab light bar was bent though, and the driving lights don't work.

Not sure it'll buff out!

ARB bumper would have buffed out lol. Glad you are ok though!

 

Haha, that's very true! I think I would have plowed right through the other car lol.

 

Glad everyone is OK. A prime opportunity to get a better front bumper.

I was in that exact same accident situation with my 1st gen a few years ago, glad you're both ok.

 

All these accidents popping up on the message board lately.

Like others have said, now it's time for a beefier front bumper.

looks like sheet metal damage to me...but let the body shop/adjustor make that decision...

I just got done stripping and repainting the Rockhard bumper off the wranger. The powder coat failed after a year or so. So remember the beefier bumpers might need additional maintenance over stock bumpers.

I don't plan on lifting the truck, so would the ARB bumper (it weights about 150-160 lb from talking to ARB) cause my front end to sag too much with the stock springs?

Get some stiffer springs and get a plated bumper.....

 

Looks to me like stiffer springs comes with an inherent lifting of the front end. If I kept my front 5100's at stock height (0" lift setting) and replaced the stock coil springs with 0.85" lift Eibachs, would I be better off from a sag point of view?

My logic is that the stiffer spring would help prevent bottoming out of the suspension, while the slight increase in height would take up some of the sag.

Not saying I would do this right away (I'm in house-buying mode right now), but if it's a viable option I would lean more towards a plate bumper.

The shipping weight on my TJM was 200 lbs.

With the Off-the-Road package the heavier shocks were already present.

Just had my front end aligned because of the added weight, but no sagging was present.

 

E you still running the stock suspension? How does the extra weight change the ride, do you notice that your suspension bottoms out more?

 

I hsve the stock TRD package and have the 4 leaf spring pack on the rear.

I've noticed it does ride a little differently and slight bottoming out on bumps.

TJM does have an accessory item for that which is not suppose to raise the front end.

 

Time for upgrades!
