New taco smashed

Bad day today I parked my truck and come back half an hour later to a destroyed bumper,taillight and the side of the box is crinkled like crazy and the whole box is shifted hit and run jerk never even left a note. The worst part is this truck has 107 Kms brand new just got it on the 17 th. such a shame.

 

Damn that sucks so much, sorry man.

Hmmm, bad and potentially good. Were you considering a high clearance tear bumper? Thus might be an opportunity to come out on top. Not sure the damage specifically but here might be an opportunity for an upgrade at a good price

 

Not to add insult to injury, but if it were up to me, I would request a new truck, if thats even possible? from the insurance company. I do body work/paint for a living, and I don't care where you take it, it will never be the same, if your bedside is repairable, that primer/sealer/clear/color, any of the above will shrink back at some point in time. Assuming you plan on keeping the truck for some time... Even if it is a new bedside, I wouldn't be happy with it... and I do it for a living! puttin a bad name out for myself! just my 2 cents

 

They can always just replace the bedside as one piece. Truck this new, you won't be able to tell the paint difference.

Sucks man. I had a 2002 ram in great condition that was written off in a high speed back up into me, about a month after I got it, so I can relate somewhat. on the bright side, I'm a proud taco owner instead!

Damn! that sucks!!! it was brand new!!! My opinion is that you can ask the insurance for the money, get a high clearance rear bumper + glassworks bedsides, and then start a build thread!!!

Hope the box didn't hit the cab, if not, then you got super lucky since the box and its panels are trivial bolt-off parts, unlike the cab.

You really need to be careful about where you park. I absolutely hate parking on the road. In fact, I refuse to park on the road ever.

I try to park near vehicles that I know won't be moving until after mine is no longer there.

Armor bumpers are a good upgrade, as are cameras. Unlike the old days when cameras were huge, expensive, and recording media short, nowadays, you can pick up a couple of little HD cameras with wide angle lenses and a media box with a massive storage capacity for probably $100-$200 combined, capable of recording for a week.

As a secondary bonus, you could hide a cheap or old cell phone with GPS on the truck and have it notify you of its location in case of vehicle theft.


BTW:

 

Although I really like the idea of fiberglass body panels, those seem to degrade the vehicle to the state known as "wall flower". That lump in the bed rails is a complete deal breaker.

What I would really like to see available, are FACTORY FORM fiberglass body panels. The part that makes this venture really sad, is that factory form would be the easiest to design since all they would have to do is take a mould of the factory panels.

Although I do get it that these are "high clearance", such could be made within the confines of factory panels.

Wow that brings back horrible memories of when my was hit and run BY MY EX BEST FRIEND IN A TEAL JEEP CHEROKEE!!!! Looks JUST like my damage but my bumper was dented on the side and shifted. $3500 worth of damage! And mine was new too!! OOOOoo that burns me up!!!!

 

That ticks me off!! GRRRRRRRR! When I finially do replace my faithful, but rust laden '93, I will have to park it in the back 40 when I run errands. Just for this very reason. Oh well, God gave me two good legs for walking, I do appreciate them. Best of luck after your repair or replacement.
