electrical problems

so i tried wiring up an extra 12 volt cigarette lighter outlet. i just spliced it off of one of my other outlets. with me tester it says they all have power, but when i plug something into the outlet nothing happens. where did i go wrong? any ideas??

ground to ground and 12v to 12v??

or pos to pos neg to neg?

did you splice them into the cig lighter or the 12v?

 

pos to pos neg to neg. and i did it to the cigarette lighter

 

and its not just the addition outlet that doesn't put out power, none of them work anymore

 

i dont know much about electrical stuffs, but check your fuses

 

i had blown one, but i replaced it already

 

Sounds like u blew a fuse.

 

The only thing I can think of is to make sure it's grounded properly, the splices are connected properly, or its a blown fuse.

 

If you blew a fuse something is wrong, I would start over.

 

if you changed it and its still not working then something you did sounds like its blowing a fuse...

 

Disconnect the new one and try to get the original ones working again and run the wire on the new one straight to the fuse block.

 

i replaced said fuse, i can keep checking i suppose

 

so don't try and splice?

 

The wire and the fuse where made for the stock ones when you add to them you can blow the fuses and or damage the wire. That might not be it though.

 

If you used crimp connectors one may have not been a good connection. The tester would have shown there was voltage but under a load the bad crimp would have all the voltage drop leaving nothing for the device you wanted to power. As for the blown fuse I suggest you double check all the connections. In the end it may be better to run the power lead directly back to the fuse box as someone suggested.

 

i did this, put everything back to how it should be and it still doesnt work. ive checked every fuse and none are blown..now what?

 

Maybe a wire has come loose or isn't connected properly
Not saying you did it wrong, just throwing ideas out there

 

You have the ignition on?
