It depends.... If my application was off-roading with a heavy electrical load, then I would use a dual isolated AGM battery set up due to the excessive vibration. If it was commuting to work, then a wet low-maintenance OEM replacement battery will work well. For more information on buying a replacement battery, please see Section 7 in the Car and Deep Cycle Battery FAQ on www.batteryfaq.org.

    back to bone stock.
my 06 is kicking butt as far as the battery is concerned..i expect it to go sideways anytime soon.

i flat out abuse my Interstate battery in my rarely driven porsche.. i go for long non-drive spells, i've left the interior lights on..it keeps going and going..well, it just died about a week ago. but that battery had a very hard 9 years. ugly.

i will get an interstate for my tacoma when it happens. the Sears platinum is brutally expensive.

I just hooked mine up to a smart charger for a day and it seems to be in good shape again.

I have always been a fan of AGM batteries. The Die Hard Platinum at Sears is made by Odyssey and doesn't carry the higher Odyssey price. That's what is what I'm running in my other vehicles and will be running in my truck when its time to buy new. I'm pleased with the quality and performance. My other rig has a 8500 winch with a factory alternator and I have never had any battery problems on the trail.

Optima yellow top. Love mine. I use my winch a lot, and its never let me down. Looking at getting another one for a dual setup for a fridge.

6 years on a toyota battery is a miracle.
I did the research and replaced my oem tundra battery with a duralast gold.
I have used optima in the past.
Replaced the oem battery in our corolla at 3 years with a duralast gold also.
Toyota batteries and dunlop at20's must be toyotas big profit earners.

Also both oem batteries gave no warning the tundra left me stuck at home the corolla stuck at work.

My battery. I took out the OEM battery 3 months into ownership of my Tacoma. I found that in the winter time that it wasn't very good(OEM). Went and got this Optima battery and never had any issues.

Don't mean to resurrect this thread nor do I know if this is already known information. I'd like to add for fyi reasons. But here goes, my 2010 Pre-runner battery indicates it's manufactured by Johnson Controls Battery Group Inc. If you go to their website johsoncontrols.com their brand is Optima. Since OE battery lasted 3yrs and 2months, I wonder if it's wise to buy Optima or how long Johnson has been supplying OE for the Tacoma. Make of it what you will.

Optima quality took a dive fairly recently after production moved to Mexico.

If you don't have a huge stereo or some other large electrical need, I suggest just getting a normal battery from your local battery store that is sized the same as the OEM battery.

If you want the battery to "look pretty" under the hood, just remove the stickers so it's just a black blob or buy a pretty battery cover... don't think you need to spend hundreds on an Optima to impress your friends and neighbors.

I've had multiple Optima batteries go bad on me and I won't go that route any more... too much $$$ for too little gain. I've also learned that just because a battery is relatively new doesn't mean it's going to last a long time. My last battery only lasted 2 years and was a name brand :(

So for me, the battery is not one place I'm going to waste a lot of money because there's no guarantee the money spent will result in a more reliable, longer lasting, battery.

If you want more power I would get the towing package battery, 27f rather than the standard.
