For what I learned from this other thread and the pictures, the thing is that the catalytics are built into the exhaust manifolds (something that you doesn't point out), that's why they want to charge you $1300 each, they are selling the exhaust manifolds (which have the cats on it), is not because they are any super special cats on tacomas...

My advice, take it if you want, go to a muffler shop and make them put new cats on it. I am sure they will work fine and your truck won't throw any codes...

Well, I have a good news: 73.2 miles, the scanner says no more pending monitors, and the green light in the scanner is on, no exhaust problem detected...

This shows potential of good results, cause you never get that green light in the scanner if there's something wrong with emision system..:)

It was not plugged, exhaust gases came easy out of it. It was only throwing P0420 code...

You have attempted to do some of your own research. Try some of these threads. If you can't find what you want them create a new thread like I suggested asking specifically what you want.

    Too many
I got the same code p0420, dealer said no way it was the 02 downstream sensors; they have their own codes, and tried to sell me cat assemblies for $1400. I said F that and threw in two new downstream 02 sensors, and haven't gotten a code for six months so far.

100 miles and not check engine light.
From now on, I'll be reporting the results in first post of this thread.
I will also included some archives from EPA, regarding installing, selling, regenerating cats, this is very important, so you don't do something against law in the USA.

EPA describe a procedure for testing and certifying regenerated cats, but no procedure to make the regeneration is described..

I'm currently getting code P0430 (Bank 2 Cat failure), and am planning on cleaning out the catalytic converter (possible even all 4, just as a preventative). How much Citric Acid did you use for the solution?

I just bought a 5lb bag on Amazon, and am hoping I can do this on Saturday. Got to get my truck emissions tested (California) at the end of this month, and don't want to spend $1,000+ on parts if I don't have to.

    Hi:

First of all, this is not something you do for preventive maintenance, this is something you only do with a already faulty cat, so you don't run the risk of damaging something that is already working right. having said that, this is what you have to do.

You need to make a 0.1 mol concentration misture, this is 21 grams per liter of water of citric acid and 12.5 grams per liter of water of oxalic acid.

Do not exceed this concentration, cause you can take precious metals out of the cat.

pour it all into water at 50 celcius degrees, and cook your cat for 3 or 4 hours. if you can use a device to recirculate the mixture you can have better results.

be sure to back flush the cat with plenty of water after you finish.

Hope you get the same good results I got.

    regards, libagui.

Unfortunately, I didn't get the same results. At first, it was looking good, when I charted the O2 sensor. After the engine warmed up, I was seeing a nice steady 0.6-0.7v. Both at idle, and when holding about 3,000rpm...then I went for a test drive and things went downhill. I started seeing the voltage all over the place again - jumping between 0.1v to 0.8v on the Bank 2 downstream sensor. The Bank 1 downstream sensor was looking great, staying steadily just over 0.5v.

One thing I noticed, though, was that the Bank 1 & Bank 2 upstream O2 sensors weren't in sync. Bank 1 holds pretty steady at 0.3v, while Bank 2 holds pretty steady at 0.6v...both with rapid +/-0.05v fluctuation.

Anyone have any ideas on what else I could look at?

Did you try to check if it was a bad sensor in the first place?
